He generated praise, joy, and a mind of happiness, and also attained the fruit of the path, possessing the three knowledges, the six supernormal powers, and the eight liberations. At that time, there was an old bhikshu who was extremely ugly in appearance, did not possess the marks of a human, and whose voice was unpleasant. He constantly praised the Three Jewels with words and sounds. At that time, the young bhikshu who possessed the three pitakas said to the bhikshu with the unpleasant voice: "Such an unpleasant voice is like the sound of a dog barking." After saying this, the old bhikshu said to the young bhikshu: "Do you not know me? You speak evil words to me." The bhikshu who possessed the three pitakas said: "I know you. You are the old bhikshu Mahala, who is praised by the Buddha and has renounced in the holy Dharma. How could I not know you?" Bhikshu Mahala said: "Now I have done what needs to be done. The pure conduct has been practiced. I will not take another existence." When the young bhikshu who possessed the three pitakas heard these words, he was terrified and frightened. Then, the young bhikshu lifted up the old bhikshu Mahala with his right hand, and a great light shone from his hand, illuminating the ten directions. Then, the young bhikshu who possessed the three pitakas bowed his head at the feet of the old bhikshu and repented, saying: "I am covered by the ignorance of unknowing, and I did not know that you are a noble one. I did not know that I had committed a sinful act. May this unknowingly committed sin not become an obstacle. May I meet virtuous friends in the future, and may I meet the teacher, the noble one, you, and may I exhaust all defilements." He confessed and admitted his fault in this way. The Blessed One said to Ananda: "At that time, because the young bhikshu who possessed the three pitakas spoke a rude word to the old bhikshu, in lifetime after lifetime
