Then, the Buddha spoke to the Bodhisattvas thus: Sons of good family, after you go to the world of Saha, you should make offerings and respect to the Buddha, the Blessed One, and generate the thought that it is extremely difficult to meet. Why is that? Because the Buddha Shakyamuni endured countless eons of unbearable austerities, and with great compassion made this vow: If I attain perfect enlightenment, in a sinful world, in a place full of mountains, gravel, rubble, pebbles, thorns, etc., where sentient beings are full of afflictions, committing the five heinous crimes and perfecting the ten non-virtuous deeds, may I attain perfect enlightenment, and for the sake of benefit and happiness, cut off all suffering, be endowed with all happiness, perfect the Dharmakaya, and attain complete Nirvana without remainder. The Buddha, the Blessed One, initially made such a vow, so after you go to that world, you should act as if the Buddha himself has come and the Buddha himself is dwelling. After speaking, all the Bodhisattvas agreed and reported: We will act in accordance with the teachings of the Blessed One. After that, each Bodhisattva led a retinue of hundreds of thousands of billions of Bodhisattvas.

Great light illuminated everything, and by miraculous power, worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges shook. Furthermore, countless hundreds of thousands of divine musical instruments played without being played, emitting sounds naturally. Those Bodhisattvas arrived at Mount Gridhrakuta, where they met the Tathagata, bowed at his feet with their heads, circumambulated the Buddha three times, and then sat down to one side. At that time, the Tathagata Shakyamuni, with light of five colors, illuminated to the west, beyond countless billions of hundreds of thousands of kotis of Buddha-fields, a world called the Pure Land. In that world, there was a Buddha named Sun Moon Lamp Light Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, Vidyacharana-sampanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara-purusa-damya-sarathi, Shasta Devamanushyanam, Buddha, Bhagavan, residing in the Buddha-field called Sukhavati. That Buddha-field was very flat, the ground was made of Vaidurya, divided by lines of pure gold, and seven kinds of precious trees grew there. Those trees were of moderate height, adorned with flowers, fruits, branches, and leaves. Gentle breezes blew, producing beautiful sounds. Beings who heard these sounds never grew tired of them. There were often springs, ponds, and bathing pools, filled with water possessing eight qualities, and the bottom of the pools was covered with golden sand. On the four sides of the pools grew fragrant lotus flowers, white lotus flowers, Parushaka flowers, and other blue and yellow flowers.

Between those precious trees, lion thrones of equal height and width, one yojana high, were arranged, adorned with the seven precious substances. Divine silk was spread on the thrones, the fragrance of divine incense wafted, and divine flowers were scattered on the thrones. The Tathagata Sun-Moon Lamp Light sat upon them in the lotus position, and immeasurable and countless Bodhisattvas stood before him, with palms joined in reverence, and each prayed to the Tathagata in unison, saying: "Bhagavan, for what reason and cause does this beautiful light, with colors of blue, yellow, red, and white, so bright and incomparable, appear from the eastern direction, illuminating these many retinues? All those who are touched by the light experience happiness in body and mind. Out of compassion, please, Bhagavan, explain this." Then, the Bhagavan said: "Son of good family, listen well and keep it well in mind, and I will explain it to you. From here, to the south, beyond immeasurable hundreds of thousands of billions of Buddha-fields, there is a Buddha-field called 'Sahā'. There, there is a Buddha named Shakyamuni Buddha, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-saṃbuddha, Vidyā-caraṇa-saṃpanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara-puruṣa-damya-sārathi, Śāsta deva-manushyānām, Buddha, Bhagavan, surrounded by many retinues, teaching the Great Skillful Means Sutra of Repaying Kindness to all the retinues, for the sake of benefiting and bringing happiness to all sentient beings, in order to eradicate the thorn of wrong views from the root of all sentient beings, in order to make the Bodhisattvas who have initially generated the mind of enlightenment
