If there is no hatred, by its cause and condition, one obtains the sign of having the soles of the feet evenly filled. Furthermore, if one is single-minded, by its cause one obtains the sign of having a thousand-spoked wheel, as well as the third sign, the fourth sign, having webbed fingers, having seven places evenly filled, being soft and smooth, having round shoulders, having full collarbones, having an upright body, and having a long and broad tongue. Furthermore, if one always acts virtuously, by its cause one obtains the sign of having long fingers, the sign of hands reaching the knees, the sign of constant light extending one fathom, and the sign of having well-aligned and non-crooked teeth. If one's actions are completely pure, by its cause one will obtain the remaining signs. Moreover, if one generates a mind of pure virtue towards sentient beings, by its cause one obtains the sign of having soft and smooth hands and feet, soft and smooth skin, and not being stained by dust and dirt. Gradually meditating and practicing, and meditating and practicing in due time, by its cause one obtains the second, third, and fourth signs. If one is fond of meditating on virtuous Dharma and has no regret, by its cause one obtains the sign of having a body color like gold, constant light, white teeth, and the white hair between the eyebrows. Even if praised, one does not become arrogant, and if one hides one's own good qualities and has no pride, by its cause one obtains the sign of having a retracted penis like a horse.

When in the state of growth, the thirty-two marks are present, but they are not completely perfect or clear. When in the thirteenth conduct, the marks also become manifestly clear and completely perfect. The marks of the Buddha's Dharma are countless, but they are not the same for all sentient beings, because there are superior, middling, and inferior, so it is inconceivable. Therefore, the Buddha spoke of the thirty-two excellent marks. If all the merit of all sentient beings were collected and piled up, it would be equal to one hair mark of the Thus-Gone One. If all the merit of all the pores were collected and piled up, it would be equal to one minor mark. If the merit of all the minor marks were increased a hundredfold, it would be equal to one major mark, except for the white hair mark between the eyebrows and the invisible mark on the crown of the head. If all the other marks, except for those two, were collected and increased a thousandfold, they would be equal to the first two marks. If the merit of the thirty-two marks and the eighty minor marks were collected and piled up and increased by trillions, it would be equal to the mark of the Thus-Gone One's voice, which is deep and far-reaching like the roar of a dragon. That sound resounds throughout immeasurable and boundless Buddha-fields, like inconceivable numbers of dust particles. By practicing loving-kindness and great compassion for the benefit of sentient beings, gratitude and repayment are inconceivable. Thus, each of those marks and minor marks benefits and brings happiness to countless ordinary beings, as many as hundreds of thousands of millions of dust particles of the great earth, and causes them to generate the mind of enlightenment. Gradually, in this way, after the practice is completely perfected, the two, the marks and the minor marks, are obtained. After the marks and minor marks are completely perfected, one goes to the foot of the Bodhi tree, subdues the armies of demons, attains perfect enlightenment, and truly turns the wheel of Dharma. From the perspective of benefiting and bringing happiness to ordinary beings, one is liberated from the river of desire, and
