Possessing marks like a lion king, marks that completely fill the space between the eyebrows and collarbones, marks of long fingers, and marks where the edges of the body are smooth and soft. Having completely abandoned divisive speech, and reconciled disputes and resentments, by that cause and condition, possessing the mark of forty teeth, the mark of well-aligned teeth, and the mark of even teeth. Having meditated on loving-kindness in the desire realm, by that cause and condition, possessing the mark of white teeth. Upon seeing beggars, welcoming and sending them off with a joyful mind, by that cause and condition, having become possessed of marks like the cheeks of a lion. Viewing all sentient beings equally as if they were one's only child, by that cause and condition, possessing the mark of the supreme taste. Constantly bestowing the taste of the unsurpassed Dharma upon sentient beings, causing those who have forgotten and do not remember to remember, oneself also guarding the five precepts, exhorting others to also guard them, and performing great Dharma giving with a loving heart, by that cause and condition, possessing the mark of the ushnisha and the mark of a long and broad tongue. Speaking truthful words, words of joy in the Dharma, and gentle and pleasing words, not speaking untimely words, by that cause and condition, possessing the voice of Brahma. Having meditated on the heart of compassion, viewing sentient beings as if they were one's parents, by that cause and condition, possessing eyes like blue lotuses, and marks like the king of a herd of cattle. Not concealing the good qualities that possess virtues, praising and extolling them, by that cause and condition, possessing the mark of the white urṇa hair. Although the causes and conditions of these thirty-two marks have been explained separately, the true cause and condition is: discipline and diligence. Why is that? If discipline is not guarded and diligence is not practiced, even a human body cannot be obtained, so what need is there to mention obtaining the thirty-two marks? There is no difference between the invisible crown of the head and the mark of the ushnisha. Furthermore, whatever is done is not necessarily certain, but full of regret.
