What are those that appear to be profoundly profound? These statements are the same as before. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins hold such views and say: When I am endowed with the five desirable qualities and fully enjoy pleasure, then I have attained Nirvana in this very life. When I myself am secluded from desires and have fully practiced up to the fourth dhyana, and abide therein, then I have attained Nirvana in this very life. This is the fifth basis. Relying on what, dwelling where, and establishing themselves in what, do they speculate on the further limit and proclaim the attainment of Nirvana in this very life? They proclaim and express the attainment of Nirvana in this very life. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins speculate on the further limit and proclaim the attainment of Nirvana in this very life. All those who proclaim and express the attainment of Nirvana in this very life are based on these five foundations. There are no more and no less than these. The Tathagata fully knows them as they truly are, and even more fully knows them as they truly are. Therefore, holding these views, and so on, up to understanding, is the same as before. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins speculate on the further limit, abide in the further limit, and having gone to views, whatever they proclaim and express are these forty-four views. There are no more and no less than these. The Tathagata fully knows them as they truly are, and even more fully knows them as they truly are. Therefore, holding these views, and so on, up to understanding, is the same as before. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins speculate on the further limit, abide in the further limit, and because of abiding, having gone to views, whatever they proclaim and express are these forty-four views. There are no more and no less than these. The Tathagata fully knows them as they truly are, and even more fully knows them.

He fully understands according to reality. Thus, these who have fallen into views, holding in this way, and so on, up to understanding, are as before. Monks, some ascetics and Brahmins, wise ones, contemplate the past, abide in the past, have fallen into views, proclaim and speak, contemplate the future, abide in the future, have fallen into views, proclaim and speak, all these sixty-two kinds of views into which they have fallen, are neither more nor less. The Tathagata fully knows those as they are, and even more fully knows them. Thus, these who have fallen into views, holding in this way, taking in this way, behaving in this way, this behavior is like this, birth is like this, the future life is like this, the Tathagata fully knows according to reality. Having fully known even more, he does not cling to it as supreme. Not clinging to it as supreme, knowing himself to be liberated, he understands that all feelings arise and cease, knowing that this is suffering, this is the definite arising of suffering. Monks, for those ascetics and Brahmins, who contemplate the past, abide in the past, those who have fallen into views, and those who contemplate the future, abide in the future, those who have fallen into views, even if they struggle upwards, they all dwell in the water of views, having fallen into the power and hand of the evil demon, the evil demon acts as he pleases, not completely liberated from the net of the demon. Monks, for example, when a fisherman or a clever disciple of a fisherman, holding a fine net, blocks a small pond, even if those large creatures struggle upwards, they all dwell in the water, having fallen into the power and hand of the fisherman, it should be known that the fisherman acts as he pleases. Similarly, some ascetics and Brahmins, contemplate the past, abide in the past, those who have fallen into views, and the future
