The Blessed One asked: Where were these roots of virtue cultivated? The Blessed One replied: Monks, the Tathagata himself, in other past lives, accumulated and obtained the necessary conditions, like a flood, and performed and accumulated the deeds that would inevitably come to pass. Therefore, the Tathagata received such offerings. Monks, do you wish to hear? Blessed One, we wish to hear. Monks, in the past, in a bygone era, there appeared in the world a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Guide of Beings, Supreme, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Blessed One, named Carriage of Fortune. He was attended by sixty-two thousand Arhats. After traveling through various regions, he arrived at the banks of the Ganges. At that time, a ferryman with hundreds of attendants was ferrying people across the Ganges. There was also a great danger of robbers in that area. Then, the ferryman saw the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Carriage of Fortune, attended by sixty-two thousand Arhats. Having seen this, his mind was filled with joy. Filled with joy, he requested the Blessed One: I would like to ferry the Blessed One first. The Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Carriage of Fortune did not say anything to the ferryman, but gave his consent. Then, that ferryman, with great wealth, ferried the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Carriage of Fortune and the sixty-two thousand Arhats across the pontoon bridge, and satisfied them with delicious food, and then made a vow to attain the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who was the ferryman was me, and by the ripening of the deeds of ferrying the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Carriage of Fortune and the sixty-two thousand Arhats, and satisfying them with delicious food, and making the vow, I

Experiencing immeasurable great bliss in samsara, and now also having manifested the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment of Buddhahood. Such offerings were also made. Monks, therefore, you should train like this: Respect the teacher. Respect him. Revere him. Make offerings to him. Having respected, revered, revered, and made offerings to the teacher, abide in reliance. Monks, you should train like this. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One. The story called "Pillar": Kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, ship captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas all respected, revered, revered, and made offerings to the Buddha, the Blessed One. Gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas offered and understood that the Buddha, the Blessed One, possessed great merit and had obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines, and medical supplies. Together with the monastic community of hearers, after traveling through the land of Kuru, he arrived at the city of Kuru. The people of Kuru also had a vast mind and would be tamed by the Buddha, and they were completely eager to give. Then, the Blessed One thought: I should summon Indra, the lord of the gods, surrounded by the assembly of gods. However, seeing him, the merit of these people will increase. Then the Blessed One arose with a worldly thought: Alas, if Indra, the lord of the gods, served by the assembly of gods, would come carrying a pillar of excellent sandalwood earth, that would be great. As soon as this thought arose, Indra, the lord of the gods, served by the assembly of gods, and all the workers, the four great kings, the gods, and the nagas

I, Yakshas and Gandharvas, and many who were served by Kumbhandas, gathered and brought pillars from the excellent sandalwood ground. They came making noises like "Ha! Ha!" and loud clamoring sounds, and having made a great noise, they excellently built a mansion of excellent sandalwood for the Blessed One. Then, in that mansion, the lord of the gods, Indra, with heavenly food, heavenly bedding, cushions, heavenly incense, and garlands of flowers, honored, respected, revered, and made offerings to the Blessed One together with the Sangha of Shravakas. Then, the assemblies of the people of Kuru, having seen those heavenly riches, were exceedingly amazed and thought to themselves: 'Since the gods, together with their powers, make offerings to the Blessed One in this way, it seems that there is nothing more supreme in the world.' Their minds became desirous, and they went to the Blessed One, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the assemblies of the people of Kuru developed great joy in that mansion. Then, the Blessed One made that mansion disappear, and taught such a Dharma that they would realize the four noble truths associated with impermanence. Having heard that, some of the people of Kuru attained the fruit of stream-entry, some attained the fruit of once-returning, some attained the fruit of non-returning, and some, having abandoned all afflictions, directly realized the state of Arhat. Some generated the mind of Shravaka Bodhi, some generated the mind of Pratyekabuddha Bodhi, and some generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, complete Bodhi. All those retinues were established in taking refuge in the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma, and taking refuge in the Sangha. The monks, too, having become joyful in mind upon seeing the offerings to the Buddha, asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: 'Blessed One, where did you perform these roots of virtue?' The Blessed One replied: 'Monks, the Tathagata himself, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed complete conditions,
