Solto. For three months, if the Blessed One would allow me to offer robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and other necessities to the Sangha of monks, I beseech the Blessed One to grant me permission. Then, the Blessed One remained silent to that son of a householder, thus giving his consent. Then, that son of a householder, knowing that the Blessed One had given his consent by remaining silent, prepared all the necessities in the grove of King Victory, and for three months, he attended to the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, with all necessities. On the final day, he offered food with a hundred flavors to the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, and offered a hundred thousand robes to the Blessed One. He also offered a pair of cloths to each of the other monks, and made a prayer to attain unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. He said: Alas, by this root of virtue, may I, in a blind world without a guide or teacher, become a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Gone to Bliss, Knower of the World, Tamer of Beings, Unsurpassed, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said to that boy: Well done, well done, son of a householder! In the future, you will, in a blind world without a guide or teacher, become a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Gone to Bliss, Knower of the World, Tamer of Beings, Unsurpassed, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Blessed One, named Water Wave. Thus he spoke. The story called "Taking Strength" is as follows: The story took place while the Blessed One was residing in Shravasti. At that time, the king of the northern Panchala country and the king of the southern Panchala country were in discord with each other, and from time to time they would fight, causing many people to lose their lives. The friend and confidant of these two was King Bright. King Bright thought: What method should I use to reconcile the dispute between these two? So, he began to think.

Opportune moment. The Blessed One is the tamer of the untamed. Thinking, "I should beseech the Blessed One," he went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. King Gsalgyal then spoke to the Blessed One, saying: "Venerable one, the king of Pan-tsa-la in the north and the king of Pan-tsa-la in the south have become discordant with each other. Because of this, they both cause many ordinary people to suffer harm from time to time. Blessed One, since you are the tamer of the untamed, out of compassion, please make an effort to pacify the enmity between them." Then the Blessed One remained silent to King Gsalgyal, giving his consent. Then King Gsalgyal praised the words of the Blessed One, rejoiced, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and departed from the presence of the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One disappeared from the grove of Prince Gyalje and went to the border between the northern region of Pan-tsa-la and the southern region of Pan-tsa-la, and having taken his seat, the Blessed One blessed them in such a way that they would think of fighting. Then the king of Pan-tsa-la in the north and the king of Pan-tsa-la in the south, having armed the four divisions of their armies, each led them out to make war. As they began to make war, through the power of the Buddha, they were both defeated and unable to prevail. Seeing that the other could overcome them, they each mounted a chariot and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. The Blessed One also blessed them so that they could not see each other. The Blessed One thought, "One of these two will go forth into my teaching, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of an Arhat. The other will generate the irreversible mind set on unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment." Thinking this, he spoke to one of them about the four noble truths.

Then he spoke words that would delight in the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then the king of the southern Pancala country rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and, with his palms joined together, bowed to the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: "Venerable one, if I can go forth in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya and receive full ordination and obtain the status of a bhikshu, then I also wish to practice the pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One." Then the Blessed One ordained him with the words, "Come, bhikshu," and granted him full ordination, and also gave him instructions. And through diligence, practice, and effort, he abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. The king of the northern Pancala country also rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and, with his palms joined together, bowed to the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: "For three months, I would like to offer robes, food, bedding, seats, medicine, and medical supplies to the Blessed One and the Sangha of bhikshus. May the Blessed One grant me permission." Then the Blessed One did not speak to the king of the northern Pancala country, thus giving his consent. Then the king of the northern Pancala country, knowing that the Blessed One had given his consent by not speaking, invited the Buddha and the Sangha of bhikshus to his own country. For three months, he provided all necessities to the Buddha and the Sangha of bhikshus, and served them with all necessities. On the final day, he offered food with a hundred flavors to the Buddha and the Sangha of bhikshus, and offered a robe worth a million to the Blessed One. He also offered a pair of cloths to each of the other bhikshus, and made aspirations for the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, saying: "Alas! By this root of virtue, may I, in a blind world without a guide or teacher, become a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, a tamer of beings."
