to separate. For what is irremediable and irreparable, separation is done with sinful views. Because of this, know that the Sangha's fighting, fault-finding, arguing, and quarreling will occur. If the fault of the talking monk can be remedied according to the Dharma, that is good. If it is not remedied in this way, it will be contrary to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One sent away the monk who had been sentenced to separation, those who followed the sentenced to separation, and those who followed those who followed the sentenced to separation. He summoned the monk who was carrying out the separation, those who followed the one carrying out the separation, and those who followed those who followed the one carrying out the separation, and then said: Monks, is it true that you are fighting, finding fault with each other, arguing, and quarreling? They replied: Blessed One, it is true. The Blessed One said: Monks, you are fighting, finding fault with each other, arguing, and quarreling, do not do this! Monks, if you fight, find fault with each other, argue, and quarrel, know that good Dharma will decline and not increase. Monks, if you do not fight, do not find fault with each other, do not argue, do not quarrel, know that good Dharma will only increase and not decline. Monks, furthermore, the monk who is carrying out the separation should do this: The monk who is carrying out the separation is untamed, powerful, holds the Sutra Pitaka, holds the Vinaya Pitaka, holds the Mantras, has deep roots, and has many attendants. Many other monk friends are also untamed, powerful, hold the Sutra Pitaka, hold the Vinaya Pitaka, hold the Mantras, have deep roots, and have many attendants. Because I do not like him, I talk about him. Because I do not like him, I remind him. If he does not listen to that fault according to the Dharma, then I will separate him recklessly, separating him with irremediable and irreparable sinful views. Because of this, know that the Sangha's fighting, fault-finding, arguing, and quarreling will occur. Do not talk about him because you do not like him! Because you do not like

Do not remember that place. If you speak out of unwillingness, it will lead to contradiction. Thus, even though the Blessed One spoke to them, they still fought, exposed each other's faults, argued, and quarreled, remaining in that state, and still did not consider it as doing the Uposatha. The monks then reported the situation to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One summoned the monks who had been expelled, their followers, and the followers of their followers, and said: Monks, I have instructed you not to fight, not to expose each other's faults, not to argue, not to quarrel, and not to remain in that state. But you still fight, expose each other's faults, argue, and quarrel, remaining in that state, and still do not consider it as doing the Uposatha, is this true? They replied: Yes, Blessed One. Monks, you should not fight, should not expose each other's faults, should not argue. Monks, if you fight, expose each other's faults, argue, and quarrel, remaining in that state, then whether you are doing the Uposatha, or the Pavarana, or the Karma of Request and Two Matters, or the Karma of Request and Four Matters, those karmas will be destroyed and must be stopped. Why is that? Monks, you cause yourselves to be separate from them, and they also cause themselves to be separate from you. Monks, there are two kinds of dwelling separately: one is when oneself considers oneself to be dwelling separately, and the other is when the Sangha unanimously considers (someone) to be dwelling separately. Monks, what is it like when oneself considers oneself to be dwelling separately? For example, when a monk knowingly and deliberately regards a lawful aspect as an unlawful aspect, that is oneself considering oneself to be dwelling separately. What is it like when the Sangha lawfully considers (someone) to be dwelling separately? For example, when the Sangha expels a monk for an unseen offense, and expels him with sinful views that are unrepentant and unatoned, that is the Sangha considering (someone) to be dwelling separately. Monks, there are two kinds of dwelling together: one is when oneself considers oneself to be dwelling together, and the other is when the Sangha lawfully
