Together with the transgressions of the body, the transgressions of speech, and the transgressions of mind, inquire about the intervals of instruction as before. They reported to the Blessed One. Then, at that time, the Blessed One said to those monks and the Brahmins of the city of Nalanda and others: Monks, I shall explain to you the Dharma, namely the category of Dharma called "Mindfulness of the Nearness of Mindfulness," which is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, complete, pure, purified, is the conduct of Brahman, and has been truly revealed. Listen well, Keep it in mind, and I will speak. The monks replied: Blessed One, we are willing to listen. Those monks listened to the teachings of the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said to them: Monks, what is the category of Dharma called "Mindfulness of the Nearness of Mindfulness"? That is, seeing Dharma as Dharma, and seeing non-Dharma as non-Dharma, thus one can make mindfulness always abide closely, and no doubt will arise, and one will also be happy to hear the Dharma, and will also respect the elders. Thus, one will know the fruits of the three karmas of body, speech, and mind, as well as the maturation of death and birth, thus the view is not inverted, and one will not be refuted by others. Monks, among them, there are three kinds of transgressions of the body, namely killing, taking what is not given, and sexual misconduct. Among them, what is killing? That is, considering other sentient beings as sentient beings, knowingly killing them, causing them to be separated from life. This also has three kinds, namely large, medium, and small. Among them, the large is killing Arhats and others, falling into the Avici hell. The medium is killing those who abide on the path. The small is killing animals and those who practice impure conduct. It is also divided into three kinds, namely past, future, and present. It is also divided into three kinds, namely done by desire, done by hatred, and done by ignorance. Among them, done by desire

It is for deer and so on. What is done by hatred is for snakes and mongooses and so on. What is done by ignorance is for sacrifices and so on. Again, there are three types: what is done by oneself, what is entrusted by others, and what is done by both. Even if killing is done with five causes, it will not be stained by faults. For example: unknowingly causing small insects and ants to lose their lives while walking on the road; throwing a weapon at another without intending to hit them, causing them to lose their lives; a doctor wishing to benefit a patient, not seeing any fault, but the patient dies after giving medicine; similarly, a mother hitting her child in order to discipline them, causing them to lose their lives; and unwillingly falling into a burning fire, etc. Killing with these five causes will not be stained. Again, there are three types of killing: instigating others, doing it oneself, and doing both. Furthermore, what is the completeness of taking what is not given? The practitioner of yoga, dwelling in accordance with the Dharma, observing the Dharma, sees with the wisdom arising from hearing or with the divine eye, and steals with the intention of possessing what is held by others. This is the completeness of taking what is not given. What is a small fruit? For example: being threatened by the king's punishment, for the sake of the guru, parents are sick, for the sake of a solitary buddha, an arhat, a non-returner, a stream-enterer, etc., and for the sake of the sick and hungry, taking what is not given, this is a small fruit. Not having taken the vow of not taking what is not given, this taking what is not given is a small maturation. Furthermore, what becomes a small fruit is that after taking what is not given, one feels remorse in one's heart, regrets and does not do it again, and also causes others to turn back from taking what is not given, and also gives the transmission of vows, and also places them on the path, placing them among those who abandon taking what is not given, and does not do the proximate action and the conclusion of the action. What is the proximate action of the action of taking what is not given? Here, the one who takes what is not given to others
