There were ten (forests) there. The Blessed One saw them and immediately settled there. He said to the monks: "This place is suitable for teaching the Dharma." After saying this, the monk Ananda reported to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, the Tathagata used to always like mountains, gardens, clear flowing water, orchards of fruit trees, and places where flowers bloom. But now there is neither flowing water, nor trees and gardens, no villages or houses, no orchards of fruit trees, and no ordinary people. Why do you, Blessed One, like to stay here and teach the Dharma? Coming from the distant wilderness, beings tormented by the suffering of hunger and thirst can hardly sustain their lives. If there is food, there is life. If there is life, there is a body. If there is a body, there is also the opportunity to practice the Dharma. If there is no food, there is no life. If there is no life, there is no body. If there is no body, there is no opportunity to practice the Dharma. There is nothing pleasing in this place. Why do you, Blessed One, teach the Dharma here?" Then, the greatly wise Sharadvatiputra, through the blessing of the Buddha, said to Ananda: "There is no need to consider again the questions that were previously asked for the sake of the Dharma. The Tathagata not only possesses the ten powers and four fearlessnesses, but also immeasurable strength, and the omniscient wisdom that never shrinks back in any situation, immeasurable splendor and miraculous powers. He makes the homeless have a home, makes those who have not seen the Buddha-nature see it, makes those who have not separated from afflictions separate from afflictions, makes those without happiness experience happiness, makes those who are not liberated attain liberation, makes those who do not possess enjoyment possess enjoyment, and makes those who have not been liberated from sorrow completely liberated from sorrow. The Tathagata possesses such immeasurable miraculous powers, why worry about the sorrow that has not arisen for the Tathagata himself? I remember that there was once a Brahmin named Great Net Immaculate, who, when teaching the Dharma to many people, bodhisattvas and shravakas came from other Buddha-fields in other worlds.

I, when the solitary Buddhas and, the powerful gods and, the Nagas and other many retinues gathered and stayed inside the house, food and so on did not appear. At that time, I wondered how these many retinues would obtain food? Then, the one named Immaculate Fame said to me: Shravakas with inferior wisdom, from the beginning of contemplating the true Dharma, why do you discriminate about food and, clothes and, beds and so on, which are illusory things? At that time, the great famous Immaculate Fame spoke these words, the gods and, people did not attain the Dharma, I felt ashamed, what you are saying now is also the same as that. Then, the Bhagavan said to Ananda: Ananda, what Sharadvatiputra, the supreme of wisdom, said is true. From the beginning of contemplating the Great Vehicle, it is not for the sake of bodily comfort that one contemplates. As soon as the Bhagavan spoke these words, he entered into Samadhi, and by the power of blessing, a golden lotus flower bloomed there. That lotus flower was forty trillion yojanas in height, it covered the entire space realm, and the net of Vaidurya also covered the golden lotus flower. Below the lotus flower was a jewel-encrusted bathing pond, filled with pure water possessing eight qualities. On the four sides of the pond were various kinds of flowers, such as: Utpala flowers, Kumuda flowers, lotus flowers, and Pundarika flowers, etc., countless flowers adorned the jewel-encrusted pond. Anyone who merely sees the golden lotus flower and the jewel-encrusted pond will obtain the pure Dharma eye, what need to mention entering and bathing in it? If one enters and bathes in it, one will obtain purity and the forbearance of the unarisen Dharma. Below the golden lotus flower appeared a lion throne made of jewels, one hundred yojanas in height. Then, the Bhagavan sat on that jewel throne and emitted great rays of light from the pores of his body and all his limbs. The rays of light of the Tathagata also matched the color of the golden lotus flower, radiating in all four directions, making all the Buddha lands in the ten directions appear, illuminating all places, including mountains and valleys.
