I praise and prostrate, offering and serving, etc. If those who desire among the great abodes of Brahmins, the great abodes of householders, the great abodes of craftsmen, the great abodes of learning, the great abodes of meditation, and any desired great abodes, if they hear the name of the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha and prostrate. Having bathed and put on clean clothes, at dawn, take refuge in the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha and pray, saying: Akashagarbha, you who possess great compassion, grant me a share! Fulfill all my thoughts and intentions, and completely fulfill my wishes as desired! With great compassion, accomplish whatever I think and ask for! After saying this, the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha, with the pure divine ear realm, surpassing human abilities, hearing that sound, will appear to those beings in a manner appropriate to each, and will show them the corresponding methods. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha is thus endowed with the Dharma of the qualities of skillful means. He possesses wisdom like a great ocean. Son of good family, the drops of water in the great ocean may be measured by someone, but the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha is skilled in skillful means and wisdom, and the extent to which he matures beings through skillful means cannot be measured. Son of good family, the measure of all the boundless and limitless space of the ten directions may be measured by someone, but the various forms in which the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha emanates in order to mature beings cannot be measured. Sometimes, in order to mature beings, he emanates as the form of a Buddha. Sometimes he emanates as the form of a Brahmin, and according to the way beings need to be tamed, he emanates into corresponding forms. For those born in the animal realm, he emanates as the form of an animal. For hell beings, he emanates as the form of a hell being, and even for the beings of the realm of Yama,

also manifests between the forms of the human world. To some, it manifests an emanation; to some, it manifests in dreams; to some, it is for the sake of purifying sinful deeds, for the sake of liberating from the lower realms, for the sake of leading to higher realms, for the sake of benefiting sentient beings. At the time of death and transference, when the last consciousness wanders, it manifests in various forms, first giving refuge to them, causing them to see, obtaining bliss, until obtaining the bliss of abiding in the world of higher realms. Therefore, no one can measure the extent of all its manifestations. Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha possesses inconceivable qualities of skillful means and wisdom, and possesses great qualities of the Buddha. Therefore, son of good family, at the crown of his limbs, on his head, appears to be a wish-fulfilling jewel. Then, at that time, all the assembled retinue marveled at the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha, found it wondrous, and developed respect and reverence for the lama. All of them joined their palms and paid homage to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha with various offerings and reverence, offering flowers, incense, garlands, unguents, lamps, incense, umbrellas, banners, streamers, Dharma robes, ornaments, clothes, praises, songs, and music. The Bodhisattva Akashagarbha also offered all of these to the Bhagavan. After offering, he prostrated at the feet of the Bhagavan and spoke thus: Venerable Bhagavan, in this Buddha-field filled with the five degenerations and afflicted with defilements, how can the benefit of the Buddha be accomplished for those sentient beings who are deluded by the great darkness of ignorance? The Bhagavan said: Like this, son of good family, space is unconfined, unliberated, unafflicted, unbewildered, and naturally pure. Space is affected by the wind, dust spreads, and is stirred by the wind,

It appears as an impure aspect. Water pacifies, is stainless, and becomes completely pure. If the distinctions of stars, planets, sun, and moon are not visible, then the reckoning of moments, instants, short periods, days, nights, times, and years will also not be visible. Son of good family, similarly, the ultimate meaning of the Thus-Gone One, the mind that has come under the power of emptiness, is naturally luminous and completely pure. However, because the minds of sentient beings are afflicted by adventitious, proximate defilements, the great compassion of the Thus-Gone One, like water, teaches the Dharma. By completely purifying the minds of sentient beings who have become afflicted, their minds become stainless. Therefore, those sentient beings, when the sun of the Thus-Gone One rises, will be satisfied by the rays of wisdom. The inconceivable qualities of the Buddha will become manifest, that is, they will abide in the four mindfulnesses up to the noble eightfold path. The eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha will abide. All sentient beings will abide utterly in compassion. From among them, Arhats will arise in the world. Solitary Buddhas and Bodhisattva Mahasattvas will arise in the world. Thus-Gone Ones, Arhats, perfectly complete Buddhas will arise in the world. Son of good family, what do you think? Does space abide in the eye? He replied: Blessed One, it does not. Does it abide in the consciousness of the eye? Blessed One, it does not. Does it abide in the contact of the eye? Blessed One, it does not. Does space abide in the three feelings that arise internally from the condition of contact with the eye? He replied: Blessed One, it does not. Similarly, it should be said for the ear, nose, tongue, and body as well. Son of good family, what do you think? Does space abide in the mind, up to the feeling that arises from the condition of contact with the mind?
