Q: How is it that joy is not manifested? How is it that compassion is not born? How is it that pity is not born? A: The so-called "fear" is the fear of the position of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The so-called "no manifestation of joy" means that there is no joy in the formless samadhis. The so-called "no compassion" means that external things are completely abandoned. The so-called "no pity" means that internal things, including the head, are completely abandoned, which is the principle. Sons of lineage, therefore, you must also understand the truth, and do not abandon lies. Q: World Honored One, how can Bodhisattvas understand the truth? How can one not abandon lies? A: Understanding the truth is for the purpose of subduing the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Not abandoning lies is for the purpose of approaching conditioned dharmas, which is the principle. Sons of lineage, therefore, you must reach the other shore, and also look at the edge of this shore; without reaching the other shore, you must also look at the edge of the other shore. Q: World Honored One, how can Bodhisattvas reach the other shore and look at the edge of this shore? How can one not reach the other shore and look at the edge of the other shore? A: Reaching the other shore refers to the minds, behaviors, and thoughts of all sentient beings. Looking at the edge of this shore is for the purpose of fully maturing all sentient beings. Not reaching the other shore is for the purpose of liberating others. Looking at the edge of the other shore means constantly focusing on Nirvana, which is the principle. Sons of lineage, therefore, you must always be in disharmony, and you must also regard non-contention as supreme; you must also abide in love, and you must also see faults. Q: World Honored One, how can Bodhisattvas always be in disharmony and regard non-contention as supreme? How can one abide in love and also see faults? A: Always being in disharmony is for the purpose of fully upholding the Dharma. Regarding non-contention as supreme,

It is because of the purity of mind. Abiding in loving-kindness is for the sake of saving all sentient beings. Seeing faults is because of all conditioned things, that is the rule. Sons of good family, therefore, do not treat cessation as cessation, nor should you fall into non-cessation, and you should also understand the nature of cessation. Question: World Honored One, how can Bodhisattvas not treat cessation as cessation? How can they not fall into non-cessation? How can they understand the nature of cessation? Answer: Cessation is called conditioned, and non-cessation is called unconditioned. Therefore, Bodhisattvas accumulate roots of virtue, so they should not treat conditioned as cessation. With skillful means, they should not fall into the unconditioned either. The nature of cessation should be understood as changing to the end of impermanence, that is the rule. Sons of good family, therefore, even in the darkness, you should abide, and you should also grasp the light, do what should not be done, and abandon what should be done. Question: World Honored One, how can Bodhisattvas abide in the darkness? How can they grasp the light? How can they do what should not be done? How can they abandon what should be done? Answer: Darkness is called ignorance, therefore, Bodhisattvas should attain the truth for the benefit of ignorant sentient beings. Light is called wisdom, and darkness should also be dispelled with wisdom. What should not be done is called Nirvana, and what should be done is called non-action. Bodhisattvas should abandon it, that is the rule. Sons of good family, therefore, even in the light of the profound Dharma, you should abide, and you should not despise the Dharmas of light, and you should not abide in light and non-light. Question: World Honored One, how can Bodhisattvas abide in the light of the profound Dharma? How can they not despise the Dharmas that have become light? How can they not abide in light and non-light? Answer: Profound is called dependent origination, therefore, Bodhisattvas, by being free from all views, all Dharmas
