without old age, without greed, without a mind of harming others, without stinginess, possessing mindfulness, possessing wisdom, possessing realization, possessing complete shame, initiating diligence, and increasing faith. Having spoken thus, Mañjuśrī Kumārabhūta requested the Blessed One, saying: "O Blessed One, the time has come for the Blessed One to declare and explain this samādhi, which is a category of Dharma, in which the Buddha speaks, the Tathāgata speaks, and the Dharma speaks, before the world including gods, humans, and asuras, and before the assembly of gods. O Sugata, the time has come to declare it, so that after hearing it from the Blessed One, it will be truly upheld." Having made this request, the Blessed One said to Mañjuśrī Kumārabhūta: "Mañjuśrī, therefore, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will explain it." Mañjuśrī replied: "O Blessed One, it is good." Mañjuśrī Kumārabhūta listened as the Blessed One instructed, and the Blessed One said to him: "Mañjuśrī, far to the east, beyond a thousand Buddha-fields, there is a world called Abhirati. There resides the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, Akṣobhya, who lives, abides, and teaches the Dharma. Mañjuśrī, from there I said to the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, Akṣobhya: 'Where does the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, Akṣobhya, abide, having manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment?' Having said this, Mañjuśrī, the Tathāgata Akṣobhya said to me: 'Having abided in the place where children perceive individual beings as self, I have manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment.' Having said this, Mañjuśrī, I said to the Tathāgata Akṣobhya: 'Children and individual beings'

Where does one abide in the perception of self? Having spoken thus, he said this to me: Abiding in ignorance, the arising of the perception of self in ordinary beings is a non-abiding place. Having abided in such a place, I awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Furthermore, Manjushri, the Tathagata Akshobhya said this to me: Supreme Shakya king, Shakyamuni, where did you abide to awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Having spoken thus, Manjushri, I said this to the Tathagata Akshobhya: Where do ordinary beings abide, from which the sixty-two views arise? Abiding in that, I awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Having spoken thus, Manjushri, the Tathagata Akshobhya said this to me: Where do the sixty-two views of ordinary beings abide, from which they arise? Having spoken thus, Manjushri, I said this to the Tathagata Akshobhya: Where does the mind and mental phenomena of an illusory person fully enter? Abiding in that, the sixty-two views of ordinary beings arise. Having abided in such a place, I awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is a question of thoroughly considering with the mind. Furthermore, Manjushri, in the eastern direction, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfect Buddha named Sarvasamrakshana said this to me: Tathagata, supreme Shakya king, Shakyamuni, where did you abide to awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Having spoken thus, Manjushri, I said this to that Tathagata: Where do ordinary beings abide, from which desire, hatred, and delusion arise? Abiding in that, I awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Having spoken thus, Manjushri,
