Just as those Sugatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones, and other Buddhas, the Bhagavat, having attained the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, benefit many beings, bring happiness to many beings, have compassion for the world, and for the sake of the great benefit, the benefit of gods and humans, and for the sake of their welfare and happiness, turn the wheel of Dharma; in the same way, may I and all sentient beings, having attained the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, benefit many beings, bring happiness to many beings, have compassion for the world, and for the sake of the great benefit, the benefit of gods and humans, and for the sake of their welfare and happiness, turn the wheel of Dharma. Shariputra, this is the accumulation of dedication. The previous accumulation of merit does not even approach one percent of this accumulation of dedication, and is even unbearable up to analogy. Shariputra, any son or daughter of good family who takes this sutra, or makes it understood, or holds it, or recites it, or extensively and accurately explains it to others, then that accumulation of merit is much more immeasurable and incalculable than that. Shariputra, all the sentient beings in the three thousand great thousand world realms, all obtain human bodies without precedence, and after obtaining human bodies without precedence, they all attain self-enlightenment. To those sons or daughters of good family, for the sake of respect and affection, with clothes, food, bedding, medicine for the sick, and implements, they are revered and honored for as long as they live. Having performed the service, and again and again exhausting all the jewels of a heap of jewels as large as Mount Sumeru, and after completely passing into Nirvana, they also build stupas of seven jewels for them, namely gold, silver, pearls, lapis lazuli, crystal, conch, and red pearls, ten yojanas high, and with umbrellas, banners, streamers, and small streamers, etc.

Shariputra, what do you think if an offering is made? Would a son of good family or a daughter of good family generate more merit than that basis? They replied: "Bhagavan, much more. Sugata, much more." The Bhagavan said: "Shariputra, whichever son of good family or daughter of good family holds this sutra, makes it fully understood, recites it, reads it, and also accurately reveals it to many people, if they aspire to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, then they will generate much more merit than that. The previous accumulation of merit does not even approach one hundredth part of this accumulation of merit, and it cannot even be tolerated up to an analogy. Why is that? Shariputra, like this, whether a son of good family or a daughter of good family, abiding in this practice, is for the sake of urging the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, of the ten directions' world-systems to turn the wheel of Dharma. Shariputra, among all the gifts, I have said that the gift of Dharma is supreme. Then, from that assembly, hundreds of thousands of beings rose from their seats, and each draped their upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on their right knee, and, with palms joined, bowed towards where the Bhagavan was, and said this to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, we will hold this sutra. We will also extensively and accurately reveal it to others. We will also abide in practice. Why is that? Bhagavan, we desire and strive to manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment through such virtuous dharmas." Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, scattered heavenly mandara flowers upon the Bhagavan and this category of Dharma. Having scattered them, he said these words: "Bhagavan, this category of Dharma is a treasure for bodhisattvas to create roots of virtue and to continuously cut off karmic obscurations." The Bhagavan said: "It is so, it is so. Kausika, it is so. Why is that? Lord of the gods, I know that from here, countless eons of very great numbers.

After disappearing, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha named Great Light Mass, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed Charioteer of beings to be tamed, the Teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, appeared in the world. Lord of the gods, the lifespan of that Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Great Light Mass Buddha, was sixty billion years. His first gathering of disciples was one hundred million, all of whom were Arhats, free from outflows. His second gathering of disciples was ninety-eight billion, all of whom were Arhats, free from outflows. His third gathering of disciples was ninety-nine billion, all of whom were Arhats, free from outflows. Lord of the gods, thereafter, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Great Light Mass Buddha, turned the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of the world, including gods, and for the benefit of beings, including Brahma, and including ascetics and Brahmins. Lord of the gods, at that time, a woman named the Ganges goddess gathered in that assembly, and from the Blessed One, the Tathagata, Great Light Mass Buddha, she personally received this Dharma teaching, fully understood it, and having received it, correctly proclaimed it to many people, and thus correctly entered into the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. After dying from there, she abandoned her female body, obtained male power, and was constantly and continuously born among gods and humans, and having been a Chakravartin king eighty-four thousand times, she became the Tathagata Jewel Light. Kauśika, from here to the east, in a hundred thousand billion Buddha-fields, he teaches the Dharma, and I still see him now. Kauśika, all those who hear the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Jewel Light, will be completely liberated from suffering.
