It will be manifestly accomplished until the fruit. Therein, the seed does not think, "I will manifestly accomplish the sprout." The sprout also does not think, "I am manifestly accomplished by the seed." Similarly, the flower also does not think, "I will manifestly accomplish the fruit," until the fruit also does not think, "I am manifestly accomplished by the flower." However, if the seed exists, the sprout will manifestly accomplish and arise; similarly, if the flower exists, it will manifestly accomplish and arise until the fruit. Therefore, external dependent arising should be regarded as related to the cause. How should external dependent arising be regarded as related to the condition? Because of the aggregation of the six elements. Which six elements are aggregated? That is, the aggregation of the earth, water, fire, wind, space, and time elements, therefore external dependent arising should be regarded as related to the condition. Therein, the earth element performs the function of supporting the seed. The water element performs the function of moistening the seed. The fire element performs the function of completely warming the seed. The wind element performs the function of inflating the seed. The space element performs the function of not obstructing the seed. Time performs the function of transforming the seed. Without these conditions, the sprout will not manifestly accomplish from the seed. When the external earth element is complete and without deficiency, and similarly, water, fire, wind, space, and time are also complete and without deficiency, when all are aggregated and the seed ceases, the sprout will manifestly accomplish from it. Therein, the earth element also does not think, "I will perform the function of supporting the seed." Similarly, the water element also does not think, "I will moisten the seed." The fire element also does not think, "I will completely warm the seed." The wind element also does not think, "I will inflate the seed." The space element also does not think, "I will perform the function of not obstructing the seed."

Nor does it think thus. Time also does not think, 'I shall perform the act of transforming the seed.' The seed also does not think, 'I shall manifest the sprout.' The sprout also does not think, 'I am manifested by these conditions.' Although it does not think, yet when these conditions exist and the seed ceases, the sprout will be manifested. Likewise, when the flower exists, even up to the fruit, it will be manifested. That sprout is not made by me, not made by another, not made by both, not made by Ishvara, not transformed by time, not born from nature, nor born from no cause. However, when the elements of earth, water, fire, wind, space, and time gather, and the seed ceases, the sprout will be manifested. Thus, external dependent origination should be viewed as related to conditions. In that, external dependent origination should be viewed in five ways. What are the five? They are impermanence, non-cessation, non-transfer, the manifestation of a great fruit from a small cause, and continuity similar to it. How is it impermanent? Because the sprout is other and the seed is also other. The sprout is not the seed, and the sprout does not arise from the cessation of the seed, nor from its non-cessation. But when the seed ceases, and at that very moment the sprout arises, therefore it is impermanent. How is it non-cessation? The sprout does not arise from the seed that ceased earlier, nor from the non-ceased. But when the seed ceases, and at that very moment the sprout arises like the rise and fall of a balance, therefore it is non-cessation. How is it non-transfer? Because the sprout is other and the seed is also other. The sprout is not the seed, therefore it is non-transfer. How does a great fruit manifest from a small cause? Because by planting a small seed, a great fruit will be manifested, therefore a great fruit manifests from a small cause. Because whatever kind of seed is planted, that kind of fruit is manifested, therefore it is a continuity similar to it.
