Those who have no attachment to wisdom are happy. They live in the city as if in a secluded place. Wherever they are, attachment enters equally and uniformly. They do not revile the practices of the city, and they do not boast of being in a secluded place; those are happy. Those who go for alms among householders have no attachment to that alms. They do not think, "I am practicing alms." Those who have no attachment to alms are happy. Those who take discarded, tattered rags and wear them on their bodies do not think, "I am wearing bad clothes." Those who do not revile others are happy. They do not wear more than the three Dharma robes that the Buddha has permitted and the Sugata has praised, and they do not think they are fearless. Those who have no pride are happy. Those who teach the supreme Dharma where there is no self and no sentient beings do not think, "I am the teacher." Those who have not become nonexistent are happy. They have no true attachment to anything white, and no subsequent attachment to anything meaningless. Those who do not think of white and black, those who do not engage in duality, are happy. Those who have no attachment to standing when standing, and no attachment to sitting when sitting, walk day and night and strive diligently. Those who are free from elaboration are happy. Those who do not think of a non-place as a place, and do not think of knowing the difference as peace, there is no difference between the Tathagata and the heretics. Those who have no supreme arrogance are happy. For whom number and counting do not exist, who do not abandon equanimity like the expanse of the sky, and who do not think of themselves and sentient beings as different, those who have not attained distinction are happy. Those who have become like illusions and act like dreams, who are not deluded like those with cataracts, and who act in the world like the moon in water, those who do not strive at all are happy. Any sentient beings who, being wise, see the ultimate meaning, know that signs and terms are meaningless, and realize the completely peaceful dharmas, those who are not the objects of signs are happy. Then, the Blessed One gave praise to the venerable son of Sharadvati, saying, "The son of Sharadvati is supreme in the Dharma that practices such profound wisdom. Well done, well done! O Shariputra!"

Therefore, for this Vulture Peak Mountain, gather all the monks and Bodhisattvas who have entered into Samadhi. Shariputra reported: "Lord, I do not like it. That is because the great elephants are difficult to please." Then, the Blessed One immediately emitted light from his body, thereby inspiring the Bodhisattvas residing in the boundless and infinite realms of the world, and arrived at the place where Vulture Peak Mountain was, and where the Blessed One was, and remained in the open sky. All the monks and Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas who had entered into Samadhi also arrived at the place where the Blessed One was. From the great city of Rajagriha, countless beings also arrived at the place where the Blessed One was. Then, the Blessed One, knowing that all the retinue had gathered, looked at the face of Manjushri, who had become a youth. After looking, he smiled. Then, at that very moment, Manjushri, who had become a youth, rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with his palms joined together, bowed towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and reported to the Blessed One: "The Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, does not smile without a cause and condition. Lord, what is the cause of your smile? What is the condition?" After reporting thus, the Blessed One said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: "Manjushri, countless Buddhas have taught on this Vulture Peak Mountain the Dharma discourse called 'Like the Courage of an Elephant.'" Then, the Venerable Ananda, having heard the Blessed One's teaching, immediately and quickly rose from his seat, draped his Dharma garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with his palms joined together, bowed towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and reported to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, now please teach me the Dharma discourse called 'Like the Courage of an Elephant,' that would be excellent."
