Transcended from the realm of mothers, it is the characteristic of a Bodhisattva. It is not hard, nor is it soft; it is not warm, nor is it cold. That is not tangible, nor is it graspable, it is the characteristic of Bodhicitta. It is not long, nor is it short; it is not round, nor is it triangular; it is not thin, nor is it thick, it is the characteristic of Bodhicitta. Completely transcending the meditators, it is not the domain of the Tirthikas, it is the union of Prajñāpāramitā, it is the characteristic of Bodhicitta. Without comparison, impossible to meditate upon, becoming supreme in an invisible place, naturally completely pure, it is the characteristic of Bodhicitta. Everything is like a bubble, like a water bubble without essence, not permanent, without self, similar to illusion and mirage. Like a mass gathered together, completely filled with elaborations, like desire, hatred, and so on, that is merely like an illusion. Just as a bindu inside, cannot be seen in an instant, if one sees Prajñāpāramitā, likewise, the mind is unconditioned. Always laughing and playing, speaking, singing, playing music, and happiness such as a foundation, all those are like a dream. All that is conditioned by embodied beings, all of this is like a dream, a dream is the mind's conceptualization, and the mind is like the sky. Whoever constantly meditates on this way, the way of Prajñāpāramitā, whoever constantly meditates on this, liberated from all things, will attain the supreme state. The unsurpassed Bodhi, meditated upon by all the Buddhas, if one holds it with meditation, one will attain the fruit of the Mahāyāna. The Mahāyāna Sutra, "The Question of the Noble Absence of Self," is complete. Translated and revised by the Indian Abbot Kamala Gupta and the revising translator, the monk Rinchen Zangpo, and finalized. The Sutra "The Question of the Noble Holder of the World," the first fascicle. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in the Radiant Grove, the place of Kalandaka's Bamboo Grove, in the Royal City (Rajgir), together with a great community of monks. At that time, the Bhagavan

Surrounded by many hundreds and thousands of attendants, he taught the Dharma. Among those attendants was also included the Bodhisattva Mahasattva named "World Holder." The Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, in order to generate the mind with immeasurable qualities and complete adornment, in order to know all the ultimate and true meanings of all Dharmas, in order to fully know that immeasurable adornment will be perfected through immeasurable aspirations, in order to realize and comprehend the ultimate characteristics of immeasurable Dharmas, in order to purify the excellent intention through immeasurable prayers, in order to fully know, for the adornment of generosity and ultimate purity, for the adornment of morality, for the complete accomplishment of patience, for the gentle and trusting mind, for purification, for diligence, for knowing complete purity, in order to comprehend and realize the perfection of meditation and wisdom, and for these and other immeasurable qualities, (the Bodhisattva World Holder) rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe, and with his palms joined together, he addressed the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, for the benefit and happiness of many beings, for the sake of Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who will not cut off the lineage of the Buddha, for those who do not cling to morality in their conduct, who possess pure morality, who are diligent in the great Dharma, and for the Bodhisattvas who are very skilled in upholding the immeasurable realm of the noble Dharma, I will ask. Blessed One, how can Bodhisattva Mahasattvas be skilled in the true nature of all Dharmas? How can they be skilled in distinguishing the nature of all Dharmas? How can they possess the power of mindfulness? How can they possess the wisdom to skillfully distinguish the categories of all Dharmas? How can they possess uninterrupted mindfulness from the moment they abandon this body until they attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment?" Thus he inquired.

I. The Blessed One spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Holder of the World: "Well done, well done! Holder of the World, it is good that you have asked the Tathagata about these matters for the sake of the Bodhisattvas, the great beings. It is for the benefit and happiness of many beings, for the sake of compassion for the world, for the benefit and happiness of the world including the gods, and also for the sake of illuminating with great light the Bodhisattvas and others of the present and future times, the merit of asking is immeasurable. Your asking the Tathagata about these matters is certainly for the sake of completely cutting off the doubts of all sentient beings, for the sake of illuminating and protecting all sentient beings with light, for the sake of showing the meaning of benefit to sentient beings, for the sake of delivering beings from the path of the precipice, for the sake of being the support, dwelling, protector, and refuge of many beings, for the sake of freeing and extracting from the three lower realms, for the sake of leading sentient beings into the unsurpassed path, for the sake of liberating many beings from birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, and turmoil, for the sake of bestowing upon sentient beings the bliss of unsurpassed Nirvana, for the sake of preserving and protecting the sacred Dharma in the future, for the sake of saving evil sentient beings in the future age of destruction. It is good to think of asking the Tathagata. Therefore, Holder of the World, listen well and keep it well in mind, and I shall explain it in detail." The Bodhisattva Holder of the World replied, "Blessed One, I shall do as you say." Then, the Bodhisattva Holder of the World listened to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said to him: "Noble son, this is what it is called: Bodhisattvas, great beings, who see the four benefits, strive and diligently work on the true nature of all dharmas, and become very skilled in distinguishing the nature of all dharmas. What are the four? To obtain perfect mindfulness.
