Therefore. That which does not transgress the realm, that is discipline. That which the aggregates are equal to the aggregates of Dharma, that is discipline. That which the realms are equal to the realm of Dharma, that is discipline. That which is without strife and contention, becoming the main thing, that is discipline. That which does not abandon diligence in virtuous Dharmas, that is discipline. That which knows that all Dharmas are extremely peaceful, and fully knows them, and abides by practicing with the body, that is discipline, so it is thought. The King of Transformations, thus the Bodhisattva Vajragarbha, abiding in discipline, thus endowed and in accordance with the noble Dharma, and abiding in this non-inverted proper attention, that monk abiding in discipline, that in accordance with the noble Dharma, that proper attention, diligently acting and walking in the place of walking, called the Subduer of the Son of Mara, together with the retinue, all eighty-four thousand Maras, together with the army and attendant retinue, all with weapons, came together to do the work of obstruction. By the power of blessing, making the body small, making the body invisible, observing the gap in the mind of that monk, and following him for a thousand years. He did not see in a thousand years that monk's mind was distracted in any way, that a mind of anger and harm would arise, such a distracted mind, he did not see even one birth. Then, the Son of Mara, the Subduer, after a thousand years had passed, together with the attendant retinue, manifested a great body, holding swords, bows and arrows, short spears, and arrows in their hands, and showed terror in front of that monk. The Vajragarbha monk saw the great Mara retinue holding swords, bows and arrows, short spears, and arrows showing terror. Having seen this, he spoke these words. With what true words do I, when I am in accordance with this noble Dharma, if I see that the aggregate of discipline and proper accordance are extremely pure, with truth and true words, the swords of those Maras and the retinues of Maras

And, may all these bows and arrows, short spears, large arrows, and so forth, held in their hands, become garlands of utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, white lotuses, champaka flowers, various flowers, barshika flowers, and khanpa flowers! May the demons and the gods of the demon retinue, their own forms, bodies, colors, and wishes, become just like that! Having said this, the King of Manifestation, the Bodhisattva Vajra-garbha, as soon as he spoke those words, all the swords, bows and arrows, short spears, large arrows, and so forth, held in the hands of all the demons and their retinues, became garlands of various colored flowers, fragrant, pleasing, beautiful to behold, and remained as such. Those demons also transformed into the likeness of monks, and all of them appeared to belong to the order of renunciates, wearing saffron robes, with shaved hair and beards. Then, the King of Manifestation, having subdued the demons, seeing the great miraculous power of that monk, was amazed, and with his attendants, prostrated at the feet of that monk, and said: Monk, what Dharma have you attained, that you possess such blessings? Having said this, the King of Manifestation, the monk Vajra-garbha, said to the demon-subduing monk: Friend, this blessing does not come from attainment, but from the absence of focus on all Dharmas, hence this blessing exists. Friend, this blessing does not come from attainment, but from the non-attainment of all Dharmas, hence this blessing exists. Friend, this blessing does not arise from residing in body, speech, and mind, but from not abiding in all Dharmas, hence this blessing exists. Friend, this blessing does not come from clinging to characteristics, but from the absence of characteristics, hence this blessing exists. This blessing exists because it does not abide in any Dharma and has no abiding place. Then, the Bodhisattva

Vajra-center, subduing the Maras, spoke thus: "Bhikkhu, though I have observed your mind for a thousand years, I have not seen the course of your mind." Then the bhikkhu Vajra-center spoke thus: "Friend, even if you were to practice for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, and were to completely observe the mind, it would not be found. Why is that? Because the mind is not found from within, nor is it found from without, nor is it found where both are absent. Friend, can you find the course of the mind in the illusion of a magician?" He said: "Bhikkhu, it is not found. The illusion of a magician has no mind, and if there is no mind, how can it be found?" He said: "Friend, the Tathagata has said that all dharmas are of the nature of an illusion, therefore mind and mind-consciousness are not found in them." He said: "If, bhikkhu, you do not find mind or mind-consciousness, then how do you go or come, and speak words?" He said: "Just as the illusion of a magician comes, goes, and speaks words, so too are my coming, going, and speaking words similar." He said: "Bhikkhu, what do you desire with this exertion of diligence, this abiding in discipline, this association with the noble Dharma, and this entering?" He said: "I desire no place." He said: "How do you desire no place?" He said: "Because there is no going there, there is no going or becoming going." Friend, the so-called 'no place' is a euphemism for 'no desire.' Again, he asked: "What do you desire with this exertion of diligence, this abiding in discipline, this association with the noble Dharma, and this entering?" Subduing the Maras, what you say is that you do not desire form to arise, you do not desire it to cease, you do not desire it to abide. Feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness, you do not desire them to arise, you do not desire them to cease, you do not desire them to abide. You do not desire all dharmas to arise, you do not desire them to cease, you do not desire them to abide. Subduing the Maras, entering (the noble Dharma) is not grasping at individual forms, feelings, perceptions, and formations.
