May the Blessed One cause such a transformation of faith to arise in us. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the Asura Lord Rahu, the Asura Lord Excellent Bliss, Weaver of Copper Color, Hand Virtuous, and Tranquilizer: "Friends, loving-kindness is praised by all Buddhas. Any person who follows loving-kindness will obtain the benefit of this life and the next. Friends, this life is short. One must go to the next life. The end of all wealth is decline. The enjoyments and powers of kings are impermanent. May you live in harmony, without malice, contemplating the next world, and relying on the ripening of karma." The Blessed One thus spoke, causing the gods of the Thirty-Three and the Asuras to live in harmony, uttering such sorrowful words. Then they said: "Blessed One, from now on, we shall act in a gentle manner, dwelling with loving-kindness towards each other, without malice." The Blessed One said: "Friends, well done, well done! The mind of loving-kindness is the supreme offering to the Tathagatas. Offering with objects that create merit arising from material things is not as supreme as the samadhi of loving-kindness. I have taught this, having considered it. Friends, furthermore, these four are also particularly excellent offerings to the Tathagata. What are the four? Not transgressing the precepts, the actions of loving body, speech, and mind, the mind of enlightenment for the sake of not cutting off the lineage of the Three Jewels, and the diligence of individually contemplating the Dharma as it has been heard. These four are particularly excellent offerings to the Tathagata." Having heard this teaching, from among the assembly of gods and the assembly of Asuras, forty thousand beings generated the mind of enlightenment. Solto! Bhagavan, within this great ocean, there are countless kinds of nagas, born from the ripening of various karmas. Some of them are known for their great power, some are known for their weak and small bodies, and there are also some with smaller bodies. Bhagavan, when the garudas descend here, they seize young nagas and weak naga maidens and feed on them. All the nagas in the ocean are terrified by this. Therefore, I beseech the Bhagavan to protect, save, and shelter all the nagas in the great ocean, so that they may be free from fear and dread. After this request, the Bhagavan took a fine cloth from his shoulder and spoke to the naga king Ocean: "O lord of nagas, take this fine cloth, divide it into small pieces, and distribute it to all the nagas and the abodes of the nagas. As long as even a single thread remains of this fine cloth, all the garudas will not roam in this great ocean again. Why is that? O lord of nagas, because the aspiration of the Tathagata, with his supreme mind endowed with morality, will surely be fulfilled." Then, all the naga kings became disheartened, thinking: "How can all the nagas in the great ocean obtain this cloth, which is so small?" Just wanting that, it will become manifest as that much clothing, becoming vast and extensive, and that piece of cloth will not be completely used up either. Then, the Dragon King Ocean said to all those Dragon Kings: Friends, generate the perception of the teacher and the perception of the stupa towards that piece of cloth. Why is that? This piece of cloth is used by the Thus-Gone One, and it has become the stupa of all sentient beings. Friends, there is no difference or distinction whatsoever between making offerings to the Thus-Gone One and making offerings to this piece of cloth. Then, the Blessed One gave approval to the Dragon King Ocean, saying: Dragon Lord, well done, well done! Just as you have said, those who make offerings to that piece of cloth have made offerings to the Thus-Gone One. Dragon Lord, have you seen how many dragons, young dragons, and dragon daughters have taken piece by piece from that piece of cloth? He replied: Blessed One, I have seen. The Blessed One said: I have predicted that all of these will completely pass into nirvana in this very Fortunate Aeon, except for those who have entered the Great Vehicle. Dragon Lord, the Thus-Gone One is such a worthy object of offering in the world that even generating a single thought towards him will not be in vain. Then, all those dragons, young dragons, and dragon daughters who dwelt in the great ocean were satisfied, pleased, and delighted, and having generated great joy and happiness, and inner peace, they touched the two feet of the Blessed One and spoke these words: The Thus-Gone One does not speak double talk, the Thus-Gone One speaks the truth, speaks correctly, speaks without perversion, he has predicted that all of us will completely pass into nirvana. Blessed One, we take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks, we should also take up the grounds of training, and we should also show gratitude to the Thus-Gone One.
