Therefore, seeking any virtue, going to the noble ones without arrogance, striving for the Dharma, desiring the Dharma, rejoicing in the joy of the Dharma, constantly observing the meaning, separately discerning the nature of impermanence, understanding the faults of conditioned phenomena, abiding by remembering that all grasping is of the nature of change, and maintaining mindfulness. Not particularly clinging to all desirable qualities, nor exhausting all roots of virtue, but rather increasing them further, and not abandoning the thought of the mind of enlightenment. Great King, if one possesses these four dharmas, a king of royal lineage who has been crowned from the crown of his head will obtain the sovereignty of the Dharma, and virtuous dharmas will also especially increase. does not abide in the true edge of non-existence, and possesses the attainment of tolerance for the dharma of non-origination. Great King, a Bodhisattva who possesses these eight dharmas will attain mastery over the Dharma. Great King, furthermore, there is a dharani called the Jewel Casket. If one attains it, the Bodhisattva will attain mastery over the Dharma. Thus, the Tathagata, based on the Jewel Casket Dharani, extensively elaborated for a million years, and accurately taught it. King Inexhaustible Merit also abandoned all royal affairs, did no other work, and with an undistracted mind, listened to the Dharma with his army and retinue. During those million years, he did not contemplate thoughts of desire, thoughts of harm, thoughts of vexation, or thoughts attached to children, wives, royal power, retinues, and all that is beloved. He focused on the love of the Dharma, remained in the thought of the Bodhi mind, with great love equally treating all sentient beings, donned the armor of great compassion, and listened solely to the Dharma. Then, the Bhagavan preached the sacred Dharma for a million years, and after hearing it, he thoroughly purified the root of this very Jewel Casket Dharani. Therefore, he was able to postpone the cycle of seven million kalpas. The accumulated karmic obscurations of tens of thousands of kalpas were completely purified. A hundred thousand Buddhas appeared before his eyes. He also obtained the root of virtue to be able to directly see hundreds of millions of billions of Buddhas. He also created the root of virtue to obtain the positions of Indra, Brahma, world guardians, and Chakravartin kings as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River. He also obtained the Dharani of hearing called Pure Remembrance, and with that Dharani of hearing, he is able to accurately retain what has been spoken by a hundred Buddhas.
