In order to fully ripen the deities, even if they become Brahma rulers, they do not become reckless even when the country prospers by peacefully contemplating transcendence of suffering. These are the ones. Great King, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if endowed with these four dharmas, they will not abandon mindfulness even when the country prospers. Great King, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if endowed with four dharmas, they will not be afraid of profound meanings. What are the four? Not seeking outwardly for true virtuous friends, but relying on those who constantly and correctly reveal the profound enlightenment of the Buddha; going even a hundred yojanas to hear such profound sutras; properly contemplating the meaning of the dharmas as heard; relying on the meaning and not relying on the words. Great King, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if endowed with these four dharmas, they will not be afraid of profound meanings. Great King, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if endowed with four dharmas, they are called true Bodhisattvas. What are the four? Diligence in striving to fully seek all perfections; great compassion in striving to fully ripen all sentient beings; overwhelming power in striving to perfect all the Buddha's teachings; and diligence in not being weary of fully embracing immeasurable samsara, accumulating merit and wisdom, and so forth. Great King, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if endowed with these four dharmas, they are called true Bodhisattvas. Ocean of Intelligence, in this way, when the Bhagavan Tathagata Amitabha spoke of this fourth teaching on accomplishment, ten billion trillion kotis of beings generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Eighty million monks, without clinging, had their minds completely liberated from the defilements. Those young princes, princesses, and the retinues of the queens gave rise to tolerance for the Dharma that accords with the Lesser Vehicle.

The great king, the land of utmost purity, developed patience for the Dharma that accords with sharpness. Then, the king, the land of utmost purity, was satisfied, pleased, rejoiced, and greatly delighted, and having generated joy and peace of mind, he offered all his kingdom to that Bhagavan for the sake of complete devotion. Thus spoke the noble Ocean of Wisdom. Ninth Chapter. Ocean of Wisdom. Then, the Bhagavan, the Tathagata Infinite Light Illumination, spoke thus to the king, the land of utmost purity: Great King, since you have already offered all your kingdom to the Tathagata for the sake of complete devotion, Great King, you Should go forth from home to homelessness in the Dharma-Vinaya well-proclaimed with faith. Why is that? Great King, going forth in the well-proclaimed Dharma-Vinaya is of great meaning, great benefit, and vast scope. Great King, the great attainments of a Bodhisattva belonging to the ordained are these twenty, which will completely perfect the unsurpassed attainment of omniscience. What are those twenty? They are as follows: By abandoning kingship, enjoyment, retinue, and power, one obtains the absence of 'I' and the absence of grasping; by engaging in leaving home, one obtains freedom from afflictions; by holding the monastic robes, one obtains a mind free from defilements; by being content with the noble lineage, one obtains ease of fulfillment and ease of sustenance; by properly taking up the purified qualities and requisites, one obtains the abandonment of great desires and sinful desires; by the completely pure aggregate of ethics, one obtains birth among gods and humans; by not abandoning the mind of enlightenment, one obtains the six perfections; by dwelling in solitary hermitages, one obtains non-mingling with crowds; by being without harm, one obtains the bliss of contemplating the Dharma; by properly cultivating the limbs of meditation, one obtains a workable mind; by completely seeking learning, one obtains great wisdom; by being without pride, one obtains great knowledge; by having few affairs and few actions, one obtains the ability to thoroughly discriminate the Dharma; by having equanimity towards all sentient beings, one obtains great love.

obtain, and with the mind that completely liberates all sentient beings, obtain great compassion, disregarding body and life, obtain complete upholding of the sacred Dharma, through completely subduing one's own mind, obtain great super-knowledge, through remembering the Buddha, obtain seeing the Buddha, through truly and correctly distinguishing the Dharma, obtain obtaining the forbearance of the unborn Dharma, through the conduct of completely upholding all qualities, obtain quickly obtaining omniscience. Great King, for a Bodhisattva who belongs to the renounced, these twenty great attainments will not become difficult to obtain. Great King, therefore, you should renounce in the well-spoken Vinaya! Ocean of Intelligence, thereafter, that Bhagavan caused King Extremely Pure Land to take ordination, abandoning all royal power, and also abandoning the glory of royal power, having become disgusted with dwelling in a house, he shaved his hair and beard, donned monastic robes, and with faith in the teachings of that Bhagavan, he renounced from household to homelessness. Knowing that he had renounced, the retinue of the king's consorts also renounced. Knowing that they had renounced, the young princes also renounced. Knowing that they had renounced, the young daughters of the king also renounced. Knowing that they had renounced, ninety-nine hundred thousand kotis of beings living in the king's land also renounced. Thus, after they had renounced, they initiated diligence in completely striving to seek the Dharma of the root of virtue, and they remained. Ocean of Intelligence, since sentient beings have become the basis of all merit, one should see how adorned are the scriptures of that Bhagavan! Ocean of Intelligence, thereafter, the great king Extremely Pure Land, having thus renounced, went to that Bhagavan Tathagata Infinite Light Radiance, and having arrived, he spoke to that Bhagavan as follows: Bhagavan, where should I dwell in order to make practice the essence, and meaningfully completely seek alms in the land?
