These are the common aspects of impermanence. Thinking, "From these, I shall extract the essence," and giving alms, in order to fully aspire to omniscience, at that time, one cuts off the Mara of the Lord of Death. When great compassion arises for all sentient beings, giving alms with the intention of completely liberating all sentient beings, in order to fully aspire to omniscience, at that time, one cuts off the Mara of the Son of the Gods. Ocean of Intelligence, furthermore, the Bodhisattva, without strongly desiring birth in cyclic existence, by guarding morality, cuts off the Mara of the aggregates. Abiding in the view of selflessness, by guarding morality, one cuts off the Mara of afflictions. Morality being completely pure, in order to avert old age and death, by guarding morality, one cuts off the Mara of the Lord of Death. Thinking, "I should establish those sentient beings with corrupted morality in the excellent morality," and guarding morality, one cuts off the Mara of the Son of the Gods. Ocean of Intelligence, furthermore, the Bodhisattva, not clinging to self, meditating on patience, cuts off the Mara of the aggregates. Not clinging to sentient beings, meditating on patience, one cuts off the Mara of afflictions. Not clinging to cyclic existence, meditating on patience, one cuts off the Mara of the Lord of Death. Not clinging to Nirvana, meditating on patience, one cuts off the Mara of the Son of the Gods. Ocean of Intelligence, furthermore, the Bodhisattva, striving in bodily solitude, completely transcends the Mara of the aggregates. Striving in mental solitude, one completely transcends the Mara of afflictions. Striving in the unborn and unceasing, one completely transcends the Mara of the Lord of Death. Not being weary of cyclic existence, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, and striving to fully uphold the sacred Dharma, one completely transcends the Mara of the Son of the Gods. Ocean of Intelligence, furthermore, the Bodhisattva, not abiding in the aggregates, meditating on concentration, completely transcends the Mara of the aggregates. Not abiding in the elements, meditating on concentration, one completely transcends the Mara of afflictions. Not abiding in the sense bases, meditating on concentration, one completely transcends the Mara of the Lord of Death. Those limbs of concentration

By completely dedicating to Bodhi, one utterly transcends the Māra of the Sons of Gods. Furthermore, Ocean of Intelligence, when a Bodhisattva becomes skilled in the aggregates through wisdom, they overcome the Māra of the Aggregates. When they become skilled in the elements through wisdom, they overcome the Māra of the Afflictions. When they become skilled in the sense bases through wisdom, they overcome the Māra of the Lord of Death. When they become skilled in dependent origination through wisdom, they also do not directly perceive true extremes, thus overcoming the Māra of the Sons of Gods. Furthermore, Ocean of Intelligence, when a Bodhisattva is inclined towards emptiness in all phenomena, the Māra of the Aggregates finds no opportunity. When they believe that all phenomena are without characteristics, the Māra of the Afflictions finds no opportunity. When all phenomena are without aspiration and without doubt, the Māra of the Lord of Death finds no opportunity. When all phenomena are without intentional action and without hesitation, and they are also not satisfied with intentionally accumulating roots of virtue, the Māra of the Sons of Gods finds no opportunity. Furthermore, Ocean of Intelligence, when a Bodhisattva cultivates the mindfulness of observing the body in the body, and also does not discriminate with the discriminations that accompany the body, at that time they truly subdue the Māra of the Aggregates. When they cultivate the mindfulness of observing feelings in feelings, and also do not discriminate with the discriminations that accompany feelings, at that time they truly subdue the Māra of the Afflictions. When they cultivate the mindfulness of observing the mind in the mind, and also do not discriminate with the discriminations that accompany the mind, at that time they truly subdue the Māra of the Lord of Death. When they cultivate the mindfulness of observing phenomena in phenomena, and also do not discriminate with the discriminations that accompany phenomena, and also do not disturb the thought of Bodhi, at that time they truly subdue the Māra of the Sons of Gods. Ocean of Intelligence, all these actions of Māra are those that arise and flourish from the self; however, a Bodhisattva does not allow what arises from the self to flourish. Whatever is the self is not the self, and is without self.
