One should perform welcoming and farewell ceremonies. What is the reason for this? It is because this one has extensively created roots of virtue for the Buddhas of the past, and being endowed with merit, thinks of roaring the lion's roar in my presence today. Son of good family, just as the king of lions knows his own strength, sharp teeth, and claws, and relies on his four limbs on the ground, even though he dwells in a rock cave, he roars by shaking his tail. Whoever possesses such characteristics should be known to be able to roar the lion's roar. The true king of lions first emerges from the cave, stretches his body, opens his mouth, looks in the four directions, and roars loudly for eleven reasons. What are the eleven? They are: completely destroying the false lions who pretend to be lions; awakening one's own strength and abilities; purifying the place; making the cubs aware of the place; making many beings free from fear; awakening those who are asleep; making all lazy beasts no longer lazy; making the beasts become retinue and refuge; taming the great fragrant elephant; teaching the cubs; and completely adorning one's own retinue, these are the eleven. When all the beasts hear the lion's roar, the aquatic creatures hide in the depths of the deep water, the land creatures flee into caves, the flying creatures fall to the ground, and even the great fragrant elephants lose control and flee. Sons of good family, just as a fox, even if it follows a lion for a hundred years, cannot roar the lion's roar. But the lion cubs, when they are three years old, can roar like the king of lions. Son of good family, the Tathagata, the perfectly complete Buddha, is also like this, with the teeth of wisdom, claws, four feet of miraculous power, a body that has perfected the six perfections, the courage of the ten powers, the tail of great compassion, dwelling in the completely pure cave of the four dhyanas, for the sake of sentient beings, he roars the lion's roar, completely destroys the armies of Mara, shows the ten powers to the many retinues, this is the realm of the Tathagata.

Having separated, he is the protector and refuge of those who hold evil views. For those who fear samsara, he generates joy, awakens sentient beings oppressed by the sleep of ignorance, and causes those who practice non-virtuous Dharma to generate a mind of regret. He teaches sentient beings with evil views, and makes them understand that what the six teachers teach is not the lion's roar, destroys the pride of the light-guarding perfecters and others, causes the two vehicles to generate a mind of regret, causes bodhisattvas of the fifth bhumi and others to generate strength and a great mind, and in order to make the four assemblies of correct view fearless towards the four assemblies of evil view. He arises from the depths of the realm of the noble ones, the realm of Brahma, and the realm of the gods, and fully extends himself, opening his mouth in order to subdue the pride and arrogance of all sentient beings. In order to cause all sentient beings to generate virtuous Dharma, he looks in the four directions. In order to cause all sentient beings to obtain the four kinds of individual correct knowledge, he plants his four limbs on the ground. In order to cause all sentient beings to rejoice in the perfection of discipline, he roars the lion's roar. Roaring the lion's roar is to certainly proclaim that all sentient beings have the Buddha-nature, that the Tathagata always abides, and does not change or transform. Son of lineage, even if the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas attend upon the Tathagata Bhagavan for hundreds of thousands of countless kalpas, they cannot roar the lion's roar. If a bodhisattva on the tenth bhumi diligently practices these three realms, then it should be understood that this is roaring the lion's roar. Sons of lineage, the bodhisattva mahasattva Lion's Roar, also thinks that he will now roar the great lion's roar. Therefore, you should make offerings, service, and respect with a superior mind. Then, the Bhagavan spoke to the bodhisattva mahasattva Lion's Roar: Son of lineage, if you have a request, ask whatever you want. Then, the bodhisattva mahasattva

Simhanada Bodhisattva thus reported to the Bhagavan (World-Honored One): Bhagavan, what is the Tathagatagarbha? What is the meaning of calling it Tathagatagarbha? And what is eternal, blissful, self, and pure? If all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, why can't it be seen? The Tathagatagarbha of all sentient beings, with what Dharma does the tenth-ground Bodhisattva abide that they cannot clearly see it? In what kind of Dharma does the Tathagata abide that they can clearly see it? With what kind of eyes does the tenth-ground Bodhisattva not clearly see it? With what kind of eyes does the Tathagata clearly see it? The Bhagavan said: Good son, good, good! If someone asks for the sake of the Dharma, they will have two kinds of accumulations. What are the two? They are wisdom and merit. If a Bodhisattva has these two accumulations, they will know the Tathagatagarbha. How is the Tathagatagarbha known, and how do the tenth-ground Bodhisattvas see with what kind of eyes, and how do the Tathagatas and Bhagavan see with what kind of eyes? Bodhisattva Simhanada reported: Bhagavan, what is the accumulation of wisdom? What is the accumulation of merit? Good son, the accumulation of wisdom is like this: from the first ground to the tenth ground is called the accumulation of wisdom. The accumulation of merit is like this: from the perfection of generosity to the perfection of wisdom, and to what is not the perfection of wisdom. Furthermore, good son, the accumulation of wisdom is like this: the Tathagatas and Bodhisattvas. The accumulation of merit is like this: the Hearers, the Solitary Buddhas, and the Bodhisattvas of the ninth ground. Furthermore, good son, the accumulation of merit is conditioned, defiled, with existence, with fruit, obstructed, and not eternal, it is an inferior Dharma. The accumulation of wisdom is unconditioned, undefiled, without existence, without fruit.
