Even if it is said that one will attain the blissful Nirvana. That Bodhisattva then thought to himself: If I commit misdeeds and do not confess or admit them, I will not reach the other shore of Samsara, nor will I become Nirvana. Thinking thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, from a young age, guards and holds onto misdeeds with a vajra-like mind. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva is extremely steadfast in guarding the four defeats and guarding against misdeeds, without any difference. If a Bodhisattva guards in that way, it is called possessing the five branches of discipline. That is to say, the Bodhisattva's discipline of completely purifying the nature of actions, the discipline of completely purifying the retinue of before and after, the discipline of purifying discriminations that are not evil, guarding correct mindfulness, the discipline of purifying mindfulness, and the discipline of dedicating to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. O Light-protector, furthermore, the discipline of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva has two aspects: taking the discipline that is truly taught in the world, and obtaining the discipline of true Dharma. If a Bodhisattva obtains the discipline of true Dharma, he will never commit evil. Taking the discipline that is truly taught in the world is obtained through supplication and performing the four karmas. Furthermore, son of good family, there are two kinds of discipline: the discipline that is heavy by nature and the discipline that the world does not blame. The discipline that is heavy by nature is the four defeats. The discipline that the world should not blame is: not doing business, not using bushels and pecks, not changing scales, not deceiving others, and furthermore, not relying on lineage and power to rob others of their wealth, and furthermore, binding with harmful intent, destroying completed actions and making them improper, sleeping while there is the light of a lamp, building houses, engaging in farming and other things that should not be done, and furthermore, yaks, horses, carts, cattle, sheep, and so on.
