I, these four are what will be gathered into fruit. Which four? First, the arising of the mind of enlightenment, being connected with conduct, non-retrogression, and being bound by one lifetime. Among these, the first arising of the mind of enlightenment is regarded as the cause connected with conduct. Being connected with conduct is regarded as the cause of non-retrogression. Non-retrogression is regarded as the cause of being bound by one lifetime. Being bound by one lifetime is regarded as the cause connected with the fruit. Son of the gods, again, for example, sowing seeds, that is regarded as the first arising of the mind of enlightenment. For example, the sprout manifestly arising from the seed, that is regarded as the arising of the mind of enlightenment connected with conduct. For example, the appearance of the trunk, leaves, flowers, and fruit, that is regarded as the non-retrogressing arising of the mind of enlightenment. For example, the fruit fully ripening, that is regarded as the arising of the mind of enlightenment bound by one lifetime. Son of the gods, again, for example, a carpenter knowing how to gather wood, that is regarded as the first arising of the mind of enlightenment. For example, knowing how to fully refine the parts of a wooden cart, that is regarded as the arising of the mind of enlightenment connected with conduct. For example, knowing how to assemble the parts of a wooden cart, that is regarded as the non-retrogressing arising of the mind of enlightenment. For example, knowing how to load cargo, that is regarded as the arising of the mind of enlightenment bound by one lifetime. Son of the gods, again, for example, the manifest arising of the circle of the waxing moon, that is regarded as the first arising of the mind of enlightenment. For example, when the circle of the moon rises on the nights of the fifth, sixth, and seventh days, that is regarded as the arising of the mind of enlightenment connected with conduct. For example, when the circle of the moon rises on the night of the tenth day, that is regarded as the non-retrogressing arising of the mind of enlightenment. For example, when the circle of the moon rises on the night of the fourteenth day, that is regarded as the arising of the mind of enlightenment bound by one lifetime. For example, when the circle of the moon rises on the night of the fifteenth day, that is regarded as the wisdom of the Thus-Gone One (梵文:Tathāgata). Son of the gods, again, the first arising of the mind of enlightenment completely transcends the level of the Hearers. The second arising of the mind of enlightenment completely transcends the level of the Solitary Buddhas. The third arising of the mind of enlightenment...
