The Noble Great Vehicle Sūtra Called "The Peak of Gayā Mountain" The Noble Great Vehicle Sūtra Called "The Peak of Gayā Mountain" In Indian language: Ārya Gayāśīrṣa nāma mahāyāna sūtra. In Tibetan language: The Noble Great Vehicle Sūtra Called "The Peak of Gayā Mountain". Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard, at one time, not long after the Blessed One had attained complete and perfect enlightenment, the Blessed One was at the Gayā Mountain, at the stupa of the Peak of Gayā Mountain, together with a great community of monks, complete with a thousand monks, all of whom had previously been wearers of matted hair, had done what was to be done, had accomplished what was to be accomplished, had laid down their burdens, had attained their own benefit, had completely exhausted all ties to existence, had completely liberated their minds through correct knowledge, had reached the ultimate shore of all mental powers, were all Arhats, and together with a great multitude of Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas. Then, the Blessed One went alone to a secluded place, and having properly established himself inwardly, contemplated the very essence of Dharma. I have attained enlightenment, I have realized wisdom, I have done what was to be done, I have laid down my burden, I have crossed over the wilderness of samsara, I have dispelled ignorance, I have accomplished knowledge, I have extracted the thorn, I have exhausted craving, I have fastened the ship of Dharma, I have beaten the drum of Dharma, I have blown the conch of Dharma, I have raised the banner of Dharma, I have reversed the course of samsara, I have proclaimed the course of Dharma, I have cut off the evil path, I have correctly shown the path, I have transformed the evil fields, I have correctly shown the fields of merit. Thus, how did I realize enlightenment, By what did I realize it, and the Dharma by which who will realize it, must be thoroughly examined. Did the body realize it? Or did the mind realize it? If the body were to realize it, then the body is inanimate, without movement, like grass, trees, walls, clods of earth, and puppets, without consciousness, composed of the four great elements, the sperm of parents.

Arising from excrement, impermanent, constantly requiring wiping, washing, and rubbing, subject to destruction, separation, and complete annihilation. Mind is like an illusion, arising dependently, without a place to dwell, without characteristics, without substance, without concealment. Enlightenment is merely a name, merely a term, without sound, beyond analysis, without establishment, without movement, without entry, without discrimination, not to be posited, completely transcending coming and going, completely transcending imputation, completely transcending the three realms, unseen, unheard, undifferentiated, without basis, without object, without movement, without elaboration, without entry, unobservable, immeasurable, unteachable, without sound, without letters, without a path of words. In that case, who attains perfect enlightenment? By what does one attain perfect enlightenment? What is to be perfectly enlightened? All these things are merely names, merely designations, merely symbols, merely terms; they are examined, completely examined, unarisen, without arising, not substantial, without substance, without taking, unteachable, without manifest clinging. Therefore, there is no one who attains perfect enlightenment, nor is there anything by which one attains perfect enlightenment, nor is there anything to be perfectly enlightened, nor is there any way by which one is to be perfectly enlightened. For this reason, whoever thus perfectly awakens to enlightenment, therefore, it is called perfect enlightenment. Therefore, enlightenment is unchanging, immutable, without characteristics, I think. Then, Mañjuśrī, become a youth, asked the Blessed One thus: "Blessed One, if the characteristic of enlightenment is such, how should a son or daughter of good family enter for the sake of enlightenment?" The Blessed One replied: "Mañjuśrī, just as enlightenment is, so should a Bodhisattva enter for the sake of enlightenment." Mañjuśrī asked: "Blessed One, how will enlightenment be fully understood?" The Blessed One replied: "Mañjuśrī, enlightenment is from the three realms."
