Earth arises. These arise mutually, Therefore, know these as causes. Heat, moisture, hardness, and movement, These phenomena are contemplated by children, This aggregation is not a dharma, Therefore, it is without inherent existence. Doctors, according to the condition of the patient, Show different treatments, But there are no different medical techniques in them, Only the distinctions are due to the diseases. Likewise, I also observe the continuums of sentient beings, The faults of afflictions and misdeeds, Knowing the power of the faculties, I explain the principles to children. Due to the differences in afflictions and faculties, My teachings are not divided. The peaceful path with eight branches Is the one and only vehicle. Then, again, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati asked the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, it is impermanent. 'Impermanent, impermanent,' all the Tirthikas contemplate in this way. You also say in all the teachings: 'Alas, all conditioned things are impermanent, They are of the nature of arising and ceasing.' So, Blessed One, is that correct or incorrect? Blessed One, how many aspects are there to impermanence?" The Blessed One replied: "Mahamati, all the Tirthikas contemplate in eight aspects, but I do not. What are the eight aspects? Mahamati, some say that change from effort is impermanence. Mahamati, effort means arising, and non-arising is impermanence. Some say that the change of shape is impermanence. Some say that form itself is impermanent. Some say that the difference in the change of form is impermanent, All dharmas continue without interruption, naturally decaying and liberating themselves, just as the difference between milk turning into yogurt, all things also have invisible and decaying impermanence. Some think that things are impermanent. Some think that the non-existence of the entity of things is impermanent. Some say that impermanence is also included in it, so all dharmas are unborn impermanence." Mahamati, the so-called non-existence of the entity of things is impermanence, like this: from the earth element and what arises from the earth element,

That which has become, its own characteristic ceases and is invisible, and the very nature of arising is not permissible. Therein, what is called unborn impermanence is like this: constantly impermanent, and not arising from existence and non-existence, and not seeing all dharmas, and even if analyzed down to the finest particles, this invisibility is not the birth of a mere verbal expression of unbornness. Great Wisdom, that is the very characteristic of unborn impermanence, and because they have not understood it, all the non-Buddhists have fallen into asserting that birth is impermanent. Furthermore, Great Wisdom, whatever considers things to be impermanent is merely discriminated by one's own mind; things are neither permanent nor impermanent. Why is that? It is like this: Great Wisdom, impermanence does not permit itself. For this, Great Wisdom, the non-thingness of all things is the result of impermanence. Without impermanence, the selflessness of all things is invisible; just as with tiles, stones, and hammers, or whatever, being broken and shattered, one sees them appearing as indistinguishable from each other. Therefore, impermanence itself is the cause, and the selflessness of all things is the result; this is impermanence itself. Because cause and effect are not different, it is said that this is the result, and cause and effect are also not different. Because things have no cause, all things are permanent. Great Wisdom, the selflessness of all things is without cause, and this is not understood by individual common people. A cause does not produce different results. If it has already produced, then all those things will become different impermanent results, and if cause and effect are not different, then the difference between cause and effect will also be seen. If their impermanence itself is a thing, then it will fall into action, the nature of the cause, and characteristics. It will also become one thing or be completely perfected into all things. Because it falls into the cause of action and the characteristics of things, the very nature of impermanence will become impermanent. Because impermanence itself is impermanent, all things will also become permanent, and will become permanence itself.
