Therefore, those without inherent existence are also without inherent existence through the very absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. Why is that? Whatever the object of purity is for the noble and truly excellent dharmas in the ultimate sense, that I have fully revealed as being ultimate. Since the characteristic of other-dependence is not an object of purity, therefore it is called the very absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. Furthermore, whatever the perfectly established characteristic of the dharmas is, that too is called the very absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. Why is that? Whatever the absence of self of phenomena (chos bdag med pa) is in the noble and truly excellent dharmas, that is called their very absence of inherent existence, and that is ultimate. Since the ultimate is completely distinguished by the very absence of inherent existence of all dharmas, therefore it is called the very absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. O noble and truly excellent one, in this regard, for example, just as with a flower in the sky, so should the absence of inherent existence of characteristics be viewed. O noble and truly excellent one, in this regard, for example, just as with an illusion created, so should the absence of inherent existence of arising also be viewed. One should also view one from the very absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. O noble and truly excellent one, in this regard, for example, just as with being completely distinguished solely by the absence of inherent existence of the color of space, and with being all-pervasive, so should one view one as being completely distinguished by the absence of self of phenomena from the very absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, and as being all-pervasive. O noble and truly excellent one, having understood from those three aspects of the absence of inherent existence, I have taught that all phenomena are without inherent existence. O noble and truly excellent one, having understood from the absence of inherent existence of characteristics, I have taught that all phenomena are unborn, unceasing, primordially peaceful, and naturally completely beyond sorrow. Why is that? O noble and truly excellent one, in this way, whatever is absent by its own characteristic, that is unborn. Whatever is unborn, that is unceasing. Whatever is unborn and unceasing, that is primordially peaceful. Whatever is primordially peaceful, that is naturally completely beyond sorrow. Self-
