Venerable One, just as, for example, if clarified butter is placed in a vessel and used for cooking meat and making all kinds of pastries, it will be very suitable. Similarly, starting from the very absence of inherent existence of all phenomena and the very complete pacification by nature, if this definitive meaning taught by the Venerable One is also taught in all the sutras of provisional meaning, it will be pleasing and will bring great joy. Venerable One, just as, for example, the sky has the same taste for everything and does not obstruct all undertakings. Similarly, starting from the very absence of inherent existence of all phenomena and the very complete pacification by nature, this definitive meaning taught by the Venerable One has the same taste for all the sutras of provisional meaning and does not obstruct all undertakings of the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle. Having thus requested, the Venerable One gave the bodhisattva Ultimate True Noble praise, saying: "Well done! Well done! Ultimate True Noble, you have understood the intention of the Thus-Gone One in what has been said. For that meaning, it is like this: a prepared saddle, a basis for drawing, an application of butter, and a well-made example of the sky—that is how Ultimate True Noble is. Do not become otherwise, but hold it thus." Then, the bodhisattva Ultimate True Noble said this to the Venerable One: "Venerable One, at first, in the Deer Park at Ṛṣipatana in Vārāṇasī, the Venerable One, by teaching the four noble truths in their aspects to those who had rightly entered the vehicle, turned a wheel of Dharma that was marvelous and wonderful. Previously, no one, whether god or human, had ever turned it in the world in accordance with the Dharma. That turning of the wheel of Dharma by the Venerable One is unsurpassed, has a cause, is of provisional meaning, and has become a basis for debate. Venerable One, starting from the very absence of inherent existence of all phenomena, the absence of arising, and

Beginning with peace and the very nature of complete nirvana, for those who have truly entered the Great Vehicle, by way of proclaiming emptiness, the second wheel of Dharma was turned, which was extremely rare and wonderful. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One was supreme, circumstantial, and the basis for arguing the meaning of straightforwardness. The Blessed One, beginning with the very absence of inherent existence of all phenomena, beginning with no birth, no cessation, peaceful from the very beginning, and the very nature of complete nirvana, for those who have truly entered all vehicles, with excellent distinction, the third wheel of Dharma was turned, which was extremely rare and wonderful. This wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One is unsurpassed, uncircumstantial, is the definitive meaning, and is not the basis for argument. The Blessed One, beginning with the very absence of inherent existence of all phenomena, up to the very nature of complete nirvana, whatever son or daughter of good family, having heard this definitive meaning taught by the Blessed One, generates faith, asks to write it down, and having written it down, also holds it, recites it, makes offerings, properly gives it away, receives the transmission, recites it, contemplates it, and engages in it by way of meditation, how much merit will that generate? After asking this, the Blessed One spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Truthful Righteous Superior: Truthful Righteous Superior, that son or daughter of good family will generate immeasurable, countless merit. Although it is not easy to make an example of it, I will briefly explain it to you. Truthful Righteous Superior, for example, whatever dust particles are on the tip of a fingernail, compared to the dust particles on the earth, it does not even come close to one percent, let alone one thousandth, one millionth, count, part, calculation, example, or cause. The water in a cow's footprint, compared to the water of the four great oceans, not even one percent

Even approaching one in a hundred is not possible, even approaching its cause is not possible. O, Sagacious Subhuti, likewise, the merit of what I have said in the sutra of expedient meaning, from faith and understanding up to engaging in the practice of yoga, compared to the merit from the explanation of the definitive meaning of the ultimate truth, from truly accomplishing faith and understanding, up to truly accomplishing the engagement in the practice of yoga, even approaching one in a hundred is not possible, even approaching its cause is not possible. Thus he spoke, and the Bodhisattva Sagacious Subhuti said this to the Bhagavan: O Bhagavan, what is the name of this Dharma category of the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra that has been taught? How should it be received? The Bhagavan said to him: O Sagacious Subhuti, this is the explanation of the definitive meaning of the ultimate truth; receive this as the explanation of the definitive meaning of the ultimate truth. When this explanation of the definitive meaning of the ultimate truth was spoken, six hundred thousand sentient beings generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Three hundred thousand śrāvakas, in all dharmas, obtained the pure Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement. One hundred and fifty thousand śrāvakas were liberated in mind from all defilements, without further grasping. Seventy-five thousand Bodhisattvas obtained forbearance of the Dharma of non-origination. The seventh chapter, Sagacious Subhuti. Seventh, the chapter of Sagacious Subhuti.
