. Much knowledge arose, it arose, the mind was tamed, wisdom arose. An appearance occurred. Monks, at that time I truly knew, as it is, that this is the suffering of defilements. This is the origin of defilements. This is the cessation of defilements. This is the path leading to the cessation of defilements. This is truly known as it is. This is the defilement of desire. This is the defilement of existence. This is the defilement of ignorance. This is the defilement of views. Here, defilements completely cease. Here, defilements completely disappear and are extinguished. This is ignorance. This is the origin of ignorance. This is the cessation of ignorance. This is the path leading to the cessation of ignorance. Thus, it is truly known as it is. Here, ignorance completely disappears and is extinguished, one should practice accordingly. These are the formations. This is the origin of formations. This is the cessation of formations. This is the path leading to the cessation of formations. Thus, it is truly known as it is. This is consciousness. This is the origin of consciousness. This is the cessation of consciousness. This is the path leading to the cessation of consciousness. Thus, it is truly known as it is. This is name and form. This is the origin of name and form. This is the cessation of name and form. This is the path leading to the cessation of name and form. Thus, it is truly known as it is. These are the six sense bases. This is the origin of the six sense bases. This is the cessation of the six sense bases. This is the path leading to the cessation of the six sense bases. Thus, it is truly known as it is. This is contact. This is the origin of contact. This is the cessation of contact. This is the path leading to the cessation of contact. Thus, it is truly known as it is. This is feeling. This is the origin of feeling. This is the cessation of feeling. This is the path leading to the cessation of feeling. This is craving. This is the path leading to the cessation of suffering, as it truly is known. Monks, in this way, the Bodhisattva, in the latter part of the night, at the time when dawn is approaching, about the time of the drumbeat, regarding a man, a noble man, a supreme man, a great man, a leading man, an elephant man, a lion man, an excellent man, a brave man, a steadfast man, a wise man, a lotus man, a white lotus man, a weighty man, an unsurpassed tamer of men, whatever it may be, all of that should be known, understood, attained, observed, and manifested by the unsurpassed noble wisdom. All of these, with the wisdom associated with a single moment of mind, having awakened to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, obtained the three knowledges. Monks, then the sons of the gods said: Friends, the Blessed One has awakened to perfect complete enlightenment, scatter flowers!

Then, all the sons of the gods who had seen the Buddhas of the past gathered together and said to each other: "Friends, the perfectly complete Buddhas of the past also made signs and manifested signs. Do not scatter flowers until the Blessed One makes a sign." Monks, then the Thus-Gone One, knowing that those sons of the gods were of two minds, manifested and rose into the sky as high as seven tala trees. Having stayed there, the continuation of the path ceased. The dust was nearly pacified. The outflows were dried up and no longer flowed. The path was cut off and no longer entered. This is called the end of suffering, and it was specifically spoken and recounted. Then, those sons of the gods scattered heavenly flowers upon the Thus-Gone One, and the heavenly flowers were scattered about, reaching up to their knees. Monks, in this way, the Thus-Gone One became perfectly enlightened, free from darkness and gloom. Craving was completely purified. Views were reversed. The defilements were stirred up. The thorns were pulled out. The knots were untied. The banner of pride was cast down. The banner of Dharma was raised. The predispositions were removed. The thusness of Dharma was known. The ultimate reality was realized. The realm of Dharma was completely known. The realms of beings were distinguished. The aggregates that are truly real were praised. The aggregates that are falsely real were disparaged. The aggregates that are uncertain were completely grasped. He beheld the faculties of beings. He completely knew the conduct of beings. He realized the healing of the diseases of beings. The preparation of the nectar medicine was accomplished. He became the king of physicians. He became the one who completely liberated beings from all suffering. He became the one who placed beings in the bliss of nirvana. The essence of the Thus-Gone One. He sat upon the great throne of the Thus-Gone One, the king of Dharma. He obtained the means of complete liberation. He entered the city of omniscience. He was completely mingled with all the Buddhas. He became inseparable from the realization of the realm of Dharma. Monks, here, I, the Thus-Gone One, know the suffering of beginningless birth, aging, and death.
