Like a prostitute, proficient and skilled in treatises and rituals. Sleeping late and rising early. Like a loving mother following her beloved child, without hypocrisy and pretense. If there is such a woman, please father, grant her to me! Monks, after King Śuddhodana heard those verses, he said to the diviner: Great Brahmin, go to the great city of Kapilavastu, go to all the houses, and see if there are any girls who possess such qualities. Whether it is a girl of the Kshatriya caste, or a girl of the Brahmin caste, a girl of the Vaishya caste, or a girl of the Shudra caste. Bring those girls here. Why is that? Because this young man is not marrying for the sake of caste, nor is he marrying for the sake of lineage, this young man is marrying for the sake of qualities. At that time, these verses were also spoken: The daughters of Kshatriyas and Brahmins, the Vaishyas and Shudras as well, whoever has these qualities, that girl should come here. My son does not value castes, nor is he amazed by lineages. He will be pleased with qualities, truth, and the Dharma. Monks, then the Brahmin diviner took the letter with the verses written on it, went to the great city of Kapilavastu, and went from house to house looking for a girl with such qualities, but he did not see a girl with such qualities. Then gradually he went to the house of the Shakya with a staff in hand, and he saw that the girl was beautiful in appearance, pleasing to the eye, and pleasing to the mind, with a beautiful complexion, full, and possessing excellent qualities, not too tall

Neither too short, nor too fat, nor too thin, nor too white, nor too black, just come of age, saw a woman who appeared like a precious jewel, and that girl grabbed the feet of that Brahmin seer and said this: Great Brahmin, what do you need? The Brahmin seer said in verse: The son of Śuddhodana, his form is supremely beautiful, endowed with thirty-two marks, virtuous and glorious. He has written down the virtues of all women. Whoever has these virtues is worthy to be his wife. Having said this, he gave her the letter. Then, that girl read the verse and showed a smiling face, and said in verse to that Brahmin seer: Brahmin, I possess all these virtues. He who has such a form is my husband. If the prince wishes, please do not delay. Even among a hundred people, I would be willing to live with ordinary people. Then, that Brahmin seer went to King Śuddhodana and told him the matter. Great King, I have seen a girl who is suitable for the prince. The king asked: Who has such a girl? He replied: The god Śākya, who holds a vajra in his hand, has such a girl. Then, King Śuddhodana thought to himself: The prince is very excellent and fond of good things, but most of the women have no virtues, yet they all claim to have virtues. I should make some pleasing objects and have the prince give them to all the women. Among those women, whichever one the prince falls in love with at first sight, I will offer her to the prince. Then, King Śuddhodana had pleasing objects made of gold, silver, and various jewels, and proclaimed with the sound of a bell in the great city of Kapilavastu: From today, in seven days, everyone will be able to see the prince, and the pleasing objects will be given to the women. All the women should come to the assembly hall! Monks, from then on, seven

Thereafter, the Bodhisattva went to the assembly hall and sat on the lion throne. At that time, King Śuddhodana arranged guards and commanded, "Tell me which girl this young man is attracted to." Monks, thereafter, in the great city of Kapilavastu, all the girls, as many as there were, went to the assembly hall, where the Bodhisattva was, to see the Bodhisattva and to obtain desirable objects. Monks, thereafter, the Bodhisattva gave desirable objects to the girls who came to visit. Then, those girls, unable to bear the Bodhisattva's splendor and glory, took the desirable objects and quickly departed. Then, a daughter of the Śākya staff-bearer named Sātsomā, surrounded by a group of maids and walking in front, went to the assembly hall, where the Bodhisattva was, and upon arriving, gazed at the Bodhisattva without blinking and sat down to one side. When the Bodhisattva had finished giving away the desirable objects, she came to the Bodhisattva, smiled, and said to the Bodhisattva, "Young man, what offense have I committed against you that you dislike me so much?" He said, "I have not disliked you, but you have come very late." Having said that, he took off a ring worth a hundred thousand and gave it to her. The girl said, "Young man, is it appropriate for me to ask you for such a thing?" He said, "Then take these other ornaments that are here." She said, "Young man, I have not come to take ornaments, but to give ornaments." Having said this, the girl left. Then, those men who had been arranged as guards went to King Śuddhodana and, recounting those events, said, "O god, the young man has become fond of the daughter of the Śākya staff-bearer named Sātsomā, and they have also had a brief conversation." Then, King Śuddhodana, having heard those words,
