and no attachment whatsoever arises. That you, with the aspect of non-objectification, the aspect of non-existence, and the aspect of non-laziness, have donned armor for the sake of all sentient beings, that is what you have accomplished with difficulty. After saying this, the youth Mañjuśrī said this to the venerable Śāradvatīputra: Venerable Śāradvatīputra, just as you have said, I have donned this armor also in order to completely liberate all sentient beings from suffering. I have no objectification of sentient beings or any attachment to sentient beings. Venerable Śāradvatīputra, I did not don this armor in order to decrease or increase the realm of sentient beings. Venerable Śāradvatīputra, having completely grasped the near-grasping, if in each Buddha-field there were Buddhas, Blessed Ones, as many as the sands of the Ganges, and those Tathāgatas were to teach the Dharma day and night, each from their own place, for as many eons as the sands of the Ganges, and even if each teaching of the Buddhas, Blessed Ones, as many as the sands of the Ganges, were to tame as many sentient beings as there are, and each Tathāgata were to tame them with each teaching, still there would be no manifestation of the realm of sentient beings decreasing or increasing. Why is that? Because sentient beings are solitary, and sentient beings are not sentient beings. Therefore, venerable Śāradvatīputra, the realm of sentient beings does not appear to decrease or increase. After saying this, the venerable Śāradvatīputra said this to the youth Mañjuśrī: Mañjuśrī, if because sentient beings are solitary and sentient beings are not sentient beings, the realm of sentient beings does not appear to decrease or increase, then having attained complete perfect enlightenment, to whom will you teach the Dharma? After saying this, the youth Mañjuśrī said this to the venerable Śāradvatīputra: Venerable Śāradvatīputra, when sentient beings are completely unattainable, who will attain complete perfect enlightenment, and to whom will the Dharma be taught? Why is that? Venerable Śāradvatīputra, it is because all dharmas are completely unattainable. Then

The Blessed One said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, when all dharmas are completely unattainable, is there still attachment to sentient beings? Furthermore, Manjushri, if someone were to ask you, 'How many sentient beings are there?' how would you answer? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, if someone were to ask this, I would answer thus: 'As many as there are Buddha-dharmas, so many are the sentient beings.' Blessed One, if someone were to ask, 'What is the measure of the realm of sentient beings?' I would answer thus: 'As much as the measure of the Buddha-field, so much is it.' The Blessed One said: Manjushri, if someone were to ask you, 'To where does the realm of sentient beings belong?' how would you answer? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, if someone were to ask this, I would answer thus: 'It belongs to where there is no birth and where the inconceivable pervades.' The Blessed One said: Manjushri, if someone were to ask you, 'Where does the realm of sentient beings abide?' how would you answer? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, if someone were to ask this, I would answer thus: 'Where the realm of no-birth abides, there also the realm of sentient beings abides.' The Blessed One said: Manjushri, when you cultivate the Prajnaparamita, where do you abide while cultivating the Prajnaparamita? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, when I cultivate the Prajnaparamita, I cultivate the Prajnaparamita without abiding anywhere. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, in non-abiding, there is also no cultivation of Prajnaparamita. Manjushri replied: Blessed One, precisely because there is no abiding anywhere, that is the cultivation of Prajnaparamita. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, when you cultivate the Prajnaparamita, will your roots of virtue increase or decrease? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, at that time, what increase or decrease is there in my roots of virtue?

I do not. World Honored One, if there is any dharma that increases or decreases, that is not the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, if one abides in order to increase or decrease any dharma, know that is not the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, not abandoning the dharmas of ordinary beings, nor taking up the dharmas of the Buddhas, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. Why is that? World Honored One, thus practicing Prajñāpāramitā is because one does not abide in any dharma, since one does not fixate on any dharma to be abandoned or taken up. World Honored One, not going towards the faults of saṃsāra, nor going towards the virtues of nirvāṇa, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. Why is that? World Honored One, thus, if one does not even see saṃsāra itself, what need to mention the faults of saṃsāra? If one does not even fixate on nirvāṇa itself, what need to mention the virtues of nirvāṇa? World Honored One, for dharma, there is nothing to be taken up, held, or abandoned, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, for any dharma, not fixating on decrease and increase, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. Why is that? World Honored One, because for that which has no arising, there is no decrease and increase. World Honored One, practicing in that way is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, for any dharma, not making arising or ceasing, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, for any dharma, not making decrease or increase, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, practicing in that way is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, furthermore, not desiring the inconceivable dharma, nor desiring the insignificant. World Honored One, that which is desired, and that by which one desires, these do not exist, that is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, practicing in that way is the practice of Prajñāpāramitā. World Honored One, Prajñāpāramitā
