And, without confusion, without strife, correctly entered, abiding in close practice with a mind like the sky, his mind is not attached or bound to all signs, just as the palm of the hand is not attached or bound to the sky. If the ascetic Light Protector possesses such qualities of a practitioner, he is called a practitioner, a practitioner. Then, the venerable Light Protector the Great addressed the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, it is wonderful that the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, has correctly and excellently taught these correct qualities of a practitioner! Blessed One, in the absence of the Tathagata, those monks and nuns who can correctly practice the Tathagata's Bodhi for countless kalpas will falsely claim to be practitioners in the name of practitioners, and those monks who are not practicing Brahmacharya will falsely claim to be practicing Brahmacharya, who will appear? The Blessed One replied: Light Protector, you and these great Shravakas will also be completely liberated from suffering, and these Bodhisattvas will also appear in other Buddha-fields. This complete destruction cannot be expressed in words. Light Protector, some monks will appear who have not cultivated the body, have not cultivated discipline, have not cultivated the mind, have not cultivated wisdom, are childish, inferior, foolish, ignorant, not completely pacified, and not tamed. Their deceit, trickery, defilement, cunning, the defilement of practice, and the faults of practice should be spoken of. Light Protector, what are the defilements of practice? Light Protector, these thirty-two are the defilements of practice. If these are abandoned, one is called a practitioner, a practitioner. What are the thirty-two? Distinguishing thoughts about desire are defilements of practice, distinguishing thoughts of malice are defilements of practice, distinguishing thoughts of harming are defilements of practice, praising oneself is a defilement of practice, belittling others is a defilement of practice, seeking unfavorable gains everywhere is a defilement of practice, and obtaining gains through gains

Venerable Udāyin, these eight are the obscurations of the Dharma of a mendicant; what are the eight? They are as follows: being disrespectful to the teachers; not honoring the Dharma; not attending properly to it; abandoning the Sutras that have not been heard; being afraid of the Dharma of no self, no sentient being, no life, no person; not accepting the teaching of the unconditioned Dharma, but following only the conditioned.
