Those ten causes will cause the great king to enter all dharmas. Great king, the nature of form is unborn and does not exist now. Great king, similarly, the nature of feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness is unborn and does not exist now. Great king, for example, the nature of the form of an image is unborn and does not exist now. Great king, similarly, the nature of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness is unborn and does not exist now. Similarly, the nature of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness is also unborn and does not exist now. Great king, for example, the nature of water in a mirage is unborn and does not exist now. Similarly, the nature of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness is also unborn and does not exist now. Great king, for example, a bubble has no essence; it is unborn and does not exist now. Similarly, from the nature of form to the nature of consciousness, it is unborn and does not exist now. Great king, for example, a beautiful woman in a dream is unborn and does not exist now. Similarly, from the nature of form to the nature of consciousness, it is unborn and does not exist now. Great king, for example, the birth of a son of a barren woman in a dream is unborn and does not exist now. Similarly, from the nature of form to the nature of consciousness, it is unborn and does not exist now. Great king, for example, there is no place in the sky. Similarly, there is no place from form to consciousness. Great king, form has no birth. Similarly, there is no birth up to consciousness. Great king, there is no birth or cessation from form to consciousness. Great king, for example, the realm of dharma has no birth or cessation. Similarly, from form to consciousness

there is no arising or ceasing. Great king, these are the realms of the Thus-Gone One, inconceivable realms. They are realms not shared with all ordinary beings, not shared with all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. There is no subtraction, no addition, no attainment, no loss, no complete enlightenment, no non-complete enlightenment, no direct knowledge, no non-direct knowledge, no complete knowledge, no abandonment, no non-abandonment, no cultivation, no non-cultivation, no manifestation, no non-manifestation, no teaching, no non-teaching, no well-teaching, no non-well-teaching, no proclamation, no non-proclamation, no hearing, no non-hearing, no hearing, no non-hearing. Why is that? Great king, because no dharma that can be added to or subtracted from is seen. Great king, all dharmas are empty by their very nature. Great king, one should generate great joy in this and not rely on others. Then, King Śuddhodana thought: Although no dharma that is known to be enlightened through realization is seen here, nevertheless, the Thus-Gone One has taught designations for dharmas that have no object of focus. Thinking this, King Śuddhodana and the seventy thousand Śākyas generated forbearance for the dharmas of non-arising. Then, the Blessed One, understanding their superior intention, smiled. This is the nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones: when they smile, rays of light of various colors, endowed with many colors, emerge from the mouth of the Blessed One, filling the boundless and limitless realms of the world with light, rising up to the world of Brahmā, and then returning, they sink into the crown of the Blessed One's head. Then, the venerable Aśvajit rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, bowing with his palms joined together in the direction of the Blessed One, said to the Blessed One:

Asked in verse: O guide of the world! Great hero, you smile, O light that illuminates the world! Please bestow the cause of the smile. O omniscient guide! By what cause do you show the smile? Please show it to all beings, Quickly dispel my doubts. For the sake of the Shakya assembly, Gautama made this smile. Hero, you make beings happy, Please dispel the doubts of beings. Your words of great contemplation, Hearing them will dispel the doubts of beings. The mind will turn to supreme joy, Everyone will attain your teachings. If your sons were to know this work of the Buddhas' smile, They would diligently learn it well, And follow in your footsteps with wisdom. O supreme among the Buddhas! Please dispel these doubts of beings. If the doubts of the world are dispelled, Great bliss will be attained. After asking thus, The Blessed One again spoke in verse to the venerable Ashvajit: Ashvajit, listen to what I do when I smile. The Shakyas are steadfast in mind, I will truly prophesy for them. The Shakyas will truly know that all dharmas have no object. Therefore, for the dharmas of the Buddhas, They will surely keep this in mind. Because of relying on no object, The great fame of the Shakyas, Having become steadfast in all dharmas, Will attain unsurpassed Bodhi. These steadfastnesses of the Shakyas, I will truly prophesy for them. These steadfastnesses of the Shakyas, After passing away from among humans, They will go to the world of Sukhavati, And go to the presence of Amitabha. The fearless Bodhisattvas, When dwelling in Sukhavati, Will make offerings to countless Buddhas in the ten directions. The wise ones, in a single moment, Will attend to the Buddhas who dwell there. Seeking benefit for all sentient beings, And sincerely aspiring to attain unsurpassed Bodhi. Offering to the Tathagatas
