I prostrate with reverence, knowing the Teacher with wisdom! Those who are skilled in the right and wrong ways, those are the Teachers to be revered. May those foremost of bipeds, with great glory, compassionate to the world, be victorious! Thus, they possess the power to transform, and that is the nature of Dharma itself. Thus, having come to know this, one becomes skilled in the right way and the best among humans. Thus, the assembly of gods with great fruits, having truly understood the Dharma. Having spoken before the Teacher and having shown that supreme intention. Some rejoice without doubt, seeing me in their minds as the Buddha himself. Those sons of the Teacher, by this very way, I will prophesy myself. Then, the Bhagavan, with the perfect supreme intention of those gods with great fruits, And having truly understood the Dharma, for the sake of generating the roots of virtue for sentient beings, at that time, he smiled. Then, the venerable Aśvajit addressed the Bhagavan in verse: The glorious Teachers smile, having seen some cause. They do not do so without cause, thus it is said, I have heard the Sugata directly. Thus, Teacher, when you smile with peace, happiness, and coolness, Victorious one, gods, humans, asuras, supreme one, speak the cause of your smile. Today, thus, seeing the cool smile from your face, Teacher, All these beings seek to dispel doubt and look upon your face, Sugata. Best of men, compassionate one, quickly speak the cause of your smile. Having heard that, supreme victor, these beings will have no more doubt. Holy Teacher, those gods who prophesy themselves, Who will obtain what, by what means, and what result, speak of all the transformations. Best of men, proclaim the voice of Brahma, I beseech you to dispel doubt. Having heard that, this assembly of the Victorious One will rejoice greatly and attain supreme joy. Those lofty banners of the Sugata, all of them do not think of anything else. The sons of the Teacher and others contemplate with the measure of enlightenment, peace, and holiness. Sage, supreme Teacher, dispel the doubt of those who seek to dispel doubt. By this, those with the power of wisdom, skilled in the right and wrong ways, all will be victorious. Having heard the eight-limbed speech of the foremost of bipeds, they rejoice greatly.

, those who practice the Sugata's teachings as they are and follow the well-spoken words will become wise. Relying on the meaning of those, I request the Sugata, the guide, to listen. By that, they will rejoice and beings will reach the end of Dharma. Having heard the past conduct of those great guides, the gods, and having heard the words of the Victorious Ones, their attachment will be completely pacified and they will be extremely joyful. Those who enter the path and are skilled in the path will quickly become omniscient. Those who liberate beings to the utmost will also teach the truth as it is. Then, the Bhagavan spoke again in verse to the venerable Ashvajit: For the sake of the assembly of gods, the smile I made is to show the world. Ashvajit, you know the time and measure, it is very good that you asked me. Why did I make this smile, the reason and cause for this. You should explain that, and you and the beings should listen with one mind. The omniscient ones see the three aspects of the cause and effect, and having seen the cause, the auspicious ones with radiant feet smile. Some with inferior intelligence enter into Nirvana, saying that we will become Shravakas, some are happy to dwell in silence, desiring Pratyekabuddha enlightenment, and some say that we will become the world's great powerful guides, liberating beings who have fallen into suffering. Knowing that they have entered with this thought, the slight smile that arises, know that it is made for the sake of the Shravakas. The moderate smile that is made, know that it is made for the sake of the Pratyekabuddhas. The supreme smile that I make, know that it is for the sake of the guides. These three, the excellent, the moderate, and the inferior, have been said to be the cause of smiling. Knowing that some seek liberation and have entered the three paths of this world, therefore, the wise ones of the world, such as the supreme guides, smile. Ashvajit, the smile made for the sake of the Shravakas will sink into the soles of the feet. The smile made for the sake of the Pratyekabuddhas will sink into the center of the body. The smile made for the sake of the guides, who have the ten powers, will sink into the crown of the head. Thus, Ashvajit, you should know that the cause of smiling is threefold. The smiles made for the sake of the supreme Victorious Ones, all of them sink into the crown of my head. Thus, in order to destroy sins,
