I. Subduing the arrogant, pacifying afflictions, faith arises in the supreme guide among humans. The ocean of existence for beings dries up, like a divine child from the ocean. With ten powers and great compassion, liberating beings, faith arises in the supreme guide among humans. Adorned with immeasurable qualities, practicing with a heart of great compassion and faith. Even beings in long-standing conflict are subdued, faith arises in the supreme guide among humans. Like a precious jewel and water, the Victorious One acts among beings, greatly harmonizing human conflicts, faith arises in the supreme guide among humans. A precious jewel, its nature completely pure, brings joy to the wise. The Victorious One is like that, with a mind that has eliminated faults and is pure, bringing joy to the wise. If faith is obtained in the Lord of the World, gods and humans will also cast off the burden of suffering. Abandoning the continuum of existence, they will go to the supreme state of peace, faith arises in the supreme guide among humans. The qualities I have spoken of are but a fraction, like a garuda soaring in the sky. I have not fully expressed the qualities of the Victorious One, faith arises in the supreme guide among humans. Then, King Śuddhodana heard the well-spoken words from the venerable Kālaka, and also directly saw the qualities of the Bhagavan acting as a Bodhisattva. He also remembered the vow he had made in the past: "I have crossed over, and you will also liberate beings." Remembering this, at that time, he developed faith in the Bhagavan. Thus, with a mind of faith arisen, he spoke to the venerable Kālaka as follows: "Bhikkhu, you are my son born from the Dharma. Take my food and go to the Bhagavan!"
