If there is no fault like that of a mother, and it is endowed with the causes and conditions of karma, it will enter the womb. Thus, when that intermediate state aggregate wishes to enter the womb, it will also become two kinds. What are the two? They are those who do not have merit and those who have great merit. Those who do not have merit are those who, when the mind of discrimination arises and sees the object, will think: "Now I have encountered wind, haze, rain, the noise of many people, and the harm of many powerful forces," and feeling fear and dread, "Now I will enter the home of roots, the home of leaves, and the secluded corner of the wall. Or I will enter the distance, the dense forest, and the caves." Thinking thus, and generating various perceptions, they will enter the womb as they see it. Those who have great merit will also think: "Now I have encountered wind, cold, haze, rain, the noise of many people, and the harm of many powerful forces." Feeling fear and dread, they will climb to the top of a multi-storied building, or climb to the top of a high roof, or enter an immeasurable palace, or sit on a throne. Thinking thus, and generating various perceptions, they will enter the mother's womb as they see it. The Blessed One said: "Ananda, thus, that which is the first to enter the womb of the intermediate state aggregate is called 'Murmur'. Although it takes a body relying on the impurity of the parents and past actions, in this way, the karma and the conditions of the parents do not separately cause themselves to be born, but by the power of aggregation, they take a body. This is like, for example, filling a vessel with ghee, and relying on the effort of a person and ropes, etc., ghee arises, although it cannot be clearly pointed out from the various conditions, but by the power of aggregation, ghee will arise, and the body of Murmur is also the same. In this way, by the power of cause and condition, the body manifestly arises and is accomplished in the womb. Ananda, this

For example, just as worms are born from green grass, cow dung, juniper trees, and seedlings, and after these worms are born, they turn green, yellow, red, and white according to their respective bases. Similarly, this body is born from the impure substances of parents, and although it cannot be clearly pointed out when searching among the many causes, the body cannot be truly formed without the power of the combined causes. When this body is born, it becomes inseparable in nature from the four great elements of the parents. For example, the earth element performs the function of solidity, the water element performs the function of moisture, the fire element performs the function of warmth, and the wind element performs the function of lightness and movement. If these tiny bodies possess only the earth element and lack the water element, they will be like holding dry half-ashes, unable to be kneaded. If they possess only the water element and lack the earth element, they will be like butter or the nature of water, which is oily and moist and lacks solidity, and will become loose and separated. If they possess only the earth and water elements and lack the fire element, they will rot and decay, just like a piece of meat placed in the shade during the summer, untouched by the sunlight. If they possess the earth, water, and fire elements but lack the wind element, they will not grow. For example, a potter or his skilled student cooks the clay and blows air into it, and after preparing everything that needs to be done, hollows it out. If there is no power of wind, it will not be completed. Similarly, these four great elements also depend on and support each other, and therefore, the tiny body is born from the four great elements of the parents and the wind of karma, and similarly, although it cannot be clearly pointed out among the many causes, the body is truly formed by the power of aggregation.

It should be known that rebirth will occur. Furthermore, Kashyapa, for example, a seed that is completely clean and well hidden, not eaten by worms, not rotten, not burned, not cracked, and without holes, if someone seeks a fertile field and sows the seed, will it sprout and grow into a trunk with branches, leaves, and shade, and blossom and bear fruit and gather together in just one day and night? World Honored One, it will not be so. The World Honored One said: Kashyapa, the mass of flesh is also the same, gradually arising from causes and conditions, and the senses will not be fully complete at once. Therefore, this body that arises from parents, even if sought among the conditions, cannot be clearly pointed out, but it should be known that it takes birth by the power of aggregation. Furthermore, Kashyapa, for example, a person with eyes takes a crystal gem and places it in the sun, and dry firewood is placed close to the gem, and fire will arise from the firewood. The firewood and the sunlight cannot produce fire separately, but because they are not separated from each other, fire is produced by the power of cause and condition. The body born from parents is also the same. Thus, what is called the mass of flesh is form. Feeling, volition, and consciousness are name. Even if the five aggregates of name and form take birth and experience suffering in a single moment, I would not praise it, let alone the long wandering in samsara. For example, even a small amount of impurity smells foul, let alone a large amount. Therefore, who would crave and cling to the five aggregates that make up the mass of flesh? Furthermore, Kashyapa, the body dwells in the mother's womb and begins to form after thirty-eight weeks. In the first week, what dwells in the womb is called a mass of flesh, which is the first sign of the body appearing, like uncoagulated yogurt, inside for seven days...
