Whether it be walls, trees, groves, surrounding mountains, vast surroundings, natural elevations of hills, mountain ranges, great mountain ranges, snow mountains, ridges overgrown with trees, or other black mountains besides these, or Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, which nothing can obscure. Having surpassed all these, even if this realm of the three-thousand great-thousand world systems were pervaded, beings who are inclined to inferiority would not change their inclination. For some of those beings, they only see the light of the Thus-Gone One as being one fathom in length. Those who are greater than that only see the light as being one span in length. Those who are exceedingly greater than that only see the light as being one yojana in length, and even those who are even more exceedingly great see the light as being up to the extent of a three-thousand great-thousand world system. Thus, Shariputra, hundreds of thousands of Brahmas see the light pervading hundreds of thousands of world systems and make it expand. Bodhisattvas who have attained the ground see the light of the Thus-Gone One pervading immeasurable world systems. Thus, Shariputra, as vast as the realm of space is, so vast is the realm of beings. Because the Thus-Gone One has compassion for beings, he makes the light pervade to such an extent. When Bodhisattvas hear this, they have many doubts, do not hesitate, have pure faith, believe, fully understand, are very joyful, obtain joy, and generate thoughts of wonder and amazement. For this, the Dharma nature is thus, and one should say this about it: The light of the sun and moon, and whatever light of Indra and Brahma there is, and the lights in between that are unsuitable, even if multiplied sixteen times, they cannot overcome it. The lights of the lower realms, and whatever pervades the three thousand worlds, even one-sixteenth of the rays of light from the Buddha's pores cannot overcome it. As vast as the sky is, the light pervades that much, beings of vast intelligence see the light in that way. The Buddha's light is limitless, equal to the sky, those who are to be tamed see the light in that way. Just as a blind person, for the light of the sun, because he has not seen it,

Saying that light does not exist. Likewise, any inferior sentient being does not see the light of the Buddha. Because they have not seen it, they say that the light of the Buddha does not exist. Some see only a fathom's distance, some see it pervading a world, and some see the light pervading the three thousand great thousand worlds. Those who dwell on the eighth, ninth, and tenth bhumis, the bodhisattvas of great wisdom, those who dwell on the great earth, they enter the boundless mandala of Buddha light, and in the inconceivable Buddha lands, they perform the deeds of the Buddhas. Therefore, the Buddha is inconceivable, and the light of the Buddha is inconceivable. If one has faith in the inconceivable, one will obtain an inconceivable accumulation of merit. Furthermore, Shariputra, how does one have complete faith in the inconceivable discipline of the Tathagatas, believe deeply, completely dispel doubt, generate great joy, and having obtained joy, generate a sense of wonder and amazement, and have complete faith in the inconceivable samadhi of the Tathagatas, believe, from belief to generating a sense of wonder and amazement? Shariputra, thus speaking with truthful words, a sentient being with completely pure discipline appears in the world, possessing completely pure bodily actions, completely pure speech, completely pure mental actions, appearing and being born in the world without being defiled by worldly dharmas, a Brahmin abandoning evil, a Shramana being peaceful, the supreme of meditators, a sentient being who has reached the other shore of supreme samadhi appears in the world, this is what is spoken with truthful words about the Tathagata. Why is that? Shariputra, in the world including the gods, the world including Brahma, the world including Mara, the world including Shramanas, the world including Brahmins, and in the world including gods, humans, and asuras, like the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha, the aggregates of discipline and samadhi are completely pure, I have not seen such immeasurable things. Why is that? Shariputra, the Tathagata is discipline and samadhi.
