It is also the source of rightness. Equanimity and the Joyful One, The voice of the Sage arises excellently. The desire of all living beings is extinguished, The poison of hatred is pacified, And the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. Such is this perfect voice. In the various directions of Jambudvipa, The languages of human beings are limitless. All the sounds of those are diverse, But upon hearing this voice, they will be understood. Earth gods and likewise sky gods, Just as they enter into whatever language, Therefore, the voice of the Sage enters excellently, And by hearing it, one touches nirvana. Those with two feet and those with four feet, Those with many feet and those without feet, The sound and voice of that enter into all. Urging, it excellently tames and subdues. As many sounds as there are in this three thousand worlds, Inferior, middling, and likewise excellent, Those follow that voice and proclaim it, Causing sentient beings to be tamed and to touch liberation. Without conception and without discrimination, Not arising from grasping and bondage, Abiding in equipoise, it holds the noble truth, And when sentient beings hear it, their afflictions are pacified. The sound of the Buddha, the Dharma, and likewise the Sangha, Giving, hearing, morality, and likewise patience, Limitless sounds are heard by sentient beings, Such is the voice of the Thus-gone One. The voice is limitless, and wisdom is limitless. The measure of that voice is without limit. Bodhisattvas, wise ones, trust and rejoice in it, And have no doubt about the voice of the Thus-gone One. Shariputra, how does a bodhisattva have manifest faith, belief, thorough understanding, and no doubt in the inconceivable wisdom of the Thus-gone Ones? Upon hearing it, they greatly rejoice, obtain joy, and generate a sense of wonder and amazement. Shariputra, in this way, the Thus-gone One observes all phenomena with wisdom free from attachment. Bodhisattvas have manifest faith, belief, thorough understanding, and generate a sense of wonder and amazement through faith. Shariputra, I will give you an example based on the perfection of wisdom of the Thus-gone One. Shariputra, take a comprehensive view, like the number of grains of sand in the Ganges River.

The grass and, trees and, branches and, leaves and, petals of the field, and whatever is small, up to the size of four fingers or more, someone gathers them together, and after gathering them together, burns them with fire, turning them into ashes. After turning them into ashes, they are poured into the great oceans of the worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and stirred for many years. However, Shariputra, the Tathagatas have such Tathagata wisdom. Possessing that wisdom, the Tathagatas take the ashes from the great oceans, from those places, and in that world and that world, they distinguish and say: "These are the ashes of a certain kind of tree from a certain world. These are the ashes of the root of a certain tree from a certain world, the trunk from a certain place, the branch from a certain place, the leaf from a certain place, and the fruit from a certain place. These are the ashes of a certain kind of petal from a certain direction." Why is that? Because, Shariputra, the Tathagata thoroughly understands the sound of the Dharma, and after thoroughly understanding it, the Tathagata thoroughly knows: "These are the ashes of a certain world." And explains it in detail. Therefore, Shariputra, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, is thus of great miraculous power, thus of great strength, and thus praised as having great power. Shariputra, any son of a noble family or daughter of a noble family who has faith in this wisdom of the Tathagata, believes, thoroughly understands, and remembers the Tathagata with loving-kindness, all virtues will completely eliminate suffering before the end of this root of virtue is attained. Why is that? Because, Shariputra, the Tathagata thoroughly understands the sound of the Dharma, and after thoroughly understanding it, no thought arising from the Tathagatas is small. Shariputra, I will give you an example. Here, some wise people completely understand the meaning of what is explained by metaphors. For example, Shariputra, someone who lives to be a hundred years old, who lives for a hundred years, the hair of...
