Having searched a hundred million times on the tip of a hair, a drop of water was taken. I came and went wherever I was, saying, 'Hey, Gautama, I entrust this drop of water to you, if I need it, please return it to me.' The Tathagata took it and threw it into the great ocean, and the current of water carried it away, mixed it together, and finally entered the great ocean. Then, a hundred-year-old man lived to be a hundred years old, came to where I was, and left, saying, 'Gautama, I need that drop of water, please give it to me.' Shariputra, the Tathagatas have the wisdom of the Tathagatas. Possessing that wisdom, the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly complete Buddha, searched a hundred million times on the tip of a hair, took that drop of water from the great ocean without mixing it with other water, and returned it to that person. Shariputra, in order to understand this meaning, I have given you an example. For what purpose should one look? Like this, Shariputra, that person's drop of water was placed in the hands of the Tathagata, and even after a long time, it would not be wasted. Similarly, Shariputra, any son of a lineage or daughter of a lineage who has such wisdom of the Tathagata, believes, fully understands, and remembers the Tathagata with love, and focuses only on the Tathagata, therefore, all those who scatter flowers in the sky will end suffering without obtaining the end of this root of virtue. Why is that? Like this, Shariputra, the realm of Dharma is fully understood from the Tathagata. Because it is fully understood, even generating a single thought from the Tathagatas will not be wasted. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the Bhagavan, 'Bhagavan, is there any wisdom of the Tathagatas that enters without the absence of discrimination?' The Bhagavan replied, 'Shariputra, that is not so.' Bhagavan, what is wisdom? What is discrimination? Shariputra, these four are the places of discrimination, and discrimination abides therein. Like this: of discrimination

It draws near to and abides in form. It focuses on form. It dwells in form. It arises, grows, and expands by relying on joy, and, consciousness draws near to and abides in feeling. It focuses on feeling. It dwells in feeling. It arises, grows, and expands by relying on joy, and, consciousness draws near to and abides in perception. It focuses on perception. It dwells in perception. It arises, grows, and expands by relying on joy, and, consciousness draws near to and abides in formation. It focuses on formation. It dwells in formation. It arises, grows, and expands by relying on joy. Shariputra, this is called consciousness. Not relying on the five aggregates of grasping, fully knowing the aggregate of consciousness, that is called wisdom. Furthermore, what is called consciousness is the consciousness of the earth element, and the water element, and the fire element, and the wind element, and the consciousness of the space element. This is called consciousness. Not relying on the four elements, but knowing the distinctions of all the realms of the dharma of consciousness, this is called wisdom. Furthermore, Shariputra, what is called consciousness is the distinguishing of forms known by the eye, and the distinguishing of sounds known by the ear, and the distinguishing of smells known by the nose, and the distinguishing of tastes known by the tongue, and the distinguishing of tactile objects known by the body, and the distinguishing of dharmas known by the mind. This is called consciousness. That which is inwardly peaceful and does not flow outward, follows after wisdom, and does not conceptualize any dharma. Non-conceptualization, that is called wisdom. Consciousness arises from an object. Consciousness arises from mental activity. Consciousness arises from complete conceptualization, that is called consciousness. Without grasping, there is no pride, and there is no object. Without distinguishing and without conceptualizing, that is called wisdom. Furthermore, consciousness abides in the dharma that is the object of conditioned things, and whatever consciousness is of the dharma that is the object of conditioned things, that is called consciousness. Consciousness does not move in the unconditioned; whoever knows the unconditioned

is called wisdom. Furthermore, that which dwells in arising and ceasing is called consciousness. That which dwells in non-arising and non-ceasing is called wisdom. Therefore, Shariputra, this is consciousness, this is wisdom. Bodhisattvas and Tathagatas have inconceivable wisdom of the Tathagatas, and they are manifest to it, and they believe, fully understand, do not doubt, greatly rejoice, and having found satisfaction, they generate wondrous and marvelous cognitions. Then, in order for the Bhagavan to extensively show that meaning, at that time he spoke these verses: Just as the sands of the Ganges are immeasurable, so too are the grasses of the ten directions' world realms. Those are burned to ashes by some people, and stirred in the ocean for hundreds and thousands of years. Like that, possessing the subtle wisdom of the ten powers, taking the ashes and prophesying to beings, this kind of trees in the boundless fields, he knows that it is ashes, knows all aspects. Thus, the dust of the world realms of the ten directions, having made all into dust, he shows the Buddhas, even if all are full, there is no attachment and no doubt. Thus, the wisdom of the Sugata is like the sky. How many mind streams of beings in the ten directions, those who have desire, hatred, and delusion, he knows the ways of all actions and thoughts, and who will have mental decline, and who will be liberated. The wisdom of the ten powers, supreme in all the world, how much it enters into the realm of Dharma in the ten directions, leaders do not arise with conception and discrimination. The sons of the Sugata have faith, they have faith in the Buddhas. Fourth, The Inconceivable Qualities of the Tathagatas, First Part.
