Immaculate and free from defilement, utterly pure. Then, the Blessed One thoroughly instructed those approximately five hundred householders with the Dharma, causing them to fully comprehend and greatly rejoice. The Blessed One's words were as follows: Householders, the eye is burning everywhere. Why is it burning everywhere? It is burning everywhere with the fire of desire, the fire of hatred, and the fire of delusion. It is burning with birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and agitation. Attachment to self is suffering, it is said. Householders, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are burning everywhere. Why are they burning everywhere? They are burning everywhere with the fire of desire, the fire of hatred, and the fire of delusion, and with birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and agitation. Attachment to self is suffering, it is said. Householders, form is burning everywhere. Why is it burning everywhere? It is burning everywhere with the fire of desire, the fire of hatred, and the fire of delusion. Likewise, sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena should be applied as before. Householders, the aggregate of form is burning everywhere. Why is it burning everywhere? It is burning everywhere with the fire of desire, the fire of hatred, and the fire of delusion. The aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of formation, and the aggregate of consciousness are also the same. Householders, the earth element is burning everywhere. Why is it burning everywhere? It is burning everywhere with the fire of desire, the fire of hatred, and the fire of delusion. Householders, the water element, the fire element, the wind element, and the space element are burning everywhere. Why are they burning everywhere? They are burning everywhere with the fire of desire, the fire of hatred, and the fire of delusion. They are burning with birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and agitation. Attachment to self is suffering, it is said. Therefore, householders, do not take the eye, thus and so.

If you do not abide in all dharmas, then will you not arise and cease? If you do not arise and cease, then you will be completely liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and turmoil, and thus completely liberated from suffering. Having said this, the Blessed One, in order to extensively explain that meaning, at that time spoke these verses: Birth and death, make this whole world completely burn. Helpless children are tormented, they fall away from the noble path. The hundred-fold path, the illuminator of the world, the Thus-Gone One will appear. Do not underestimate this precious leisure, strive to cultivate steadfast diligence. Abiding in what place and meditating on contemplation, also look at it with wisdom. Having seen it with wisdom, it will not change into something else. Abiding in what place and meditating on the mind, one should know that everything is empty. Having recognized that all dharmas are empty, enlightenment itself is also empty. Desire, hatred, and likewise ignorance, these three fires are extremely terrible. They make this whole world burn, but children sleep for a long time, unable to understand. Having recognized that birth, old age, sickness, death, and lamentation, suffering, and distress torment this world, do not abide in all dharmas. Then, about five hundred householders said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, may we obtain ordination from the Blessed One, may we obtain the status of a fully ordained bhikshu from the Sugata. The Blessed One said: Bhikshus, come. Having said this, those venerable ones immediately became ordained, immediately obtained full ordination, and immediately became bhikshus. The Dharma nature here is like this, therefore it is called "speech." They wore the kasaya robes, they also shaved their hair. All of them holding begging bowls, immediately became Arhats. The Teacher fully understood the Arhats, and the Sangha of bhikshus.
