arise. Just as fire burns seeds, and green sprouts emerge. Son of lineage, how does a Bodhisattva become the essence of diligence? Son of lineage, here, a Bodhisattva shaves his hair and beard, puts on the robes of a renunciate, and with faith, goes forth from home to homelessness, fully renouncing. Having renounced, he also studies the precepts, rituals, conduct, and behavior of the Hearers. He also studies the precepts, rituals, conduct, and behavior of the Solitary Buddhas. By studying in this way, all the faults associated with body, speech, and mind are completely abandoned, all of them, in every way, entirely. Among these, what are the faults associated with the body? For example: killing, taking what is not given, engaging in sexual misconduct, stealing, weapons, sticks, hands, etc., harming others, waving hands, raising feet, running, jumping, leaping, walking quickly, swimming, these are called faults associated with the body. Among these, what are the faults of speech? For example: lying, slander, harsh speech, idle talk, speaking improperly, abandoning the profound and deep Sutras, speaking unpleasant words to Khenpos, Acharyas, Lamas, and those who practice Brahmacharya, these are called faults of speech. Among these, what are the faults of mind? For example: greed, malice, wrong view, jealousy, stinginess, wanting to decline, wanting fame, wanting gain, arrogance of lineage, arrogance of appearance, arrogance of youth, arrogance of health, arrogance of life, arrogance of much learning, arrogance of meditation, thoughts of desire, thoughts of harm, thoughts of violence, thoughts of relatives, thoughts of objects, and robes, food, bedding, cushions, and medicine for illness, etc.

The various discriminations of utensils, the particular attachment to dwellings, the particular attachment to vehicles, the particular attachment to bedding, the particular attachment to drinks, the particular attachment to food, the particular attachment to the nature of life itself, and wives, sons, daughters, plows, farmlands, male servants, female servants, laborers, those who live by wages, friends, advisors, relatives, and in-law relationships, and particular attachment to wealth, grains, storehouses, and granaries, and particular attachment to various kinds of livelihood items. Thus, being particularly attached in that way, when any of the aforementioned things are exhausted, sorrow, lamentation, inner suffering, unpleasantness, and agitation arise, and thus his mind is completely moistened by the moisture of craving, and therefore he becomes connected to craving. Son of good family, in short, being thrown by the wheel of mental karma, he completely wanders in the wheel of samsara, and that is called the bad abode of the mind. Thus, being separated from the bad abodes of body, speech, and mind, one generates the perception of the master as the Buddha towards the preceptor, generates the perception of the master as the preceptor towards the teacher, and treats the elder, intermediate, and younger practitioners of pure conduct with compliance and respect, and dwelling alone in solitude, one thinks thus: "Like this, I strive to liberate all sentient beings, I strive to free all sentient beings, I strive to establish all sentient beings in taming and pacification, but if I myself am not tamed, not pacified, not guarded, and not controlled, that is not my part, so I must, in any case, tame sentient beings merely by seeing me, and act according to the words of the Tathagatas, and make the gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, and so on rejoice, do it like that, accomplish it like that, initiate diligence like that." Thinking thus. Son of good family, that is the bodhisattva's sense of shame. And again, thinking thus:

Thinking: 'None of my lay or ordained followers, whether they are deficient in discipline, or deficient in view, or deficient in livelihood, or deficient in ritual, or deficient in conduct, or any deficient ones, should be criticized.' Thinking thus, when he becomes so conscientious, he should reflect on himself three times, recite his name three times, and individually recollect the precepts. Because his discipline is completely pure, he has no regret, and there is no obstacle, and the continuity of the path is cut off, he closely relies on and abides in the Dharma and Vinaya of the Tathagata. Son of good family, this is called the conscientiousness of a Bodhisattva. Son of good family, thus a Bodhisattva should be diligent. Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: The perfect Buddhas and the Buddhas', The Shravakas make diligence essential. Therefore, in order to attain diligence, The wise should always strive diligently. For diligence, there is no fear, The Bodhisattva has great wisdom. That which all Buddhas rely on, The stainless Bodhi will be realized. Son of good family, how does a Bodhisattva possess a noble lineage? Son of good family, here, the Bodhisattva's nature is that attachment, hatred, and ignorance are small, there is no jealousy, no stinginess, no deceit, no deception. Not rough, not rude, not arrogant, not conceited. Not talkative, not speaking meaningless words. Listening to upright words. Delightful, pleasant to be with. By nature, he is inclined to great offerings and acts of reverence, and with regard to possessions and livelihood, he has faith in giving to others. The excellent hands, feet, eyes, and limbs are extremely upright and clear. When he sees the Tathagata or the Shravakas of the Tathagata, just by seeing them, he will gain faith and joy. He obtains a noble lineage through that faith and joy. Son of good family, thus a Bodhisattva possesses
