If there is no craving, then what is called grasping does not exist. Due to the condition of grasping, what is called existence does exist. If there is no grasping, then what is called existence does not exist. Due to the condition of existence, what is called birth does exist. If there is no existence, then what is called birth does not exist. Due to the condition of birth, old age and death, sorrow and lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and disturbances do exist. If there is no birth, then old age and death, sorrow and, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and disturbances do not exist. Furthermore, giving becomes great wealth, which exists. Giving becomes poverty, which does not exist. Keeping moral discipline leads to rebirth in higher realms, which exists. Keeping moral discipline leads to rebirth in lower realms, which does not exist. Listening leads to great wisdom, which exists. Listening leads to scattered wisdom, which does not exist. Meditation leads to liberation, which exists. Meditation does not lead to liberation, which does not exist. Meditation does not lead to liberation, which does not exist. If one possesses improper attention, then the arising of afflictions exists. If one is separated from improper attention, then the arising of afflictions does not exist. For those with manifest pride, there is no communication of omniscience. For those without manifest pride, there is Nirvana. Furthermore, there is emptiness that follows all. There is no self that follows within. For those with wisdom, there is liberation. For those with pride, there is no arising. What is called self, or sentient being, or life, or person, does not exist. Secret Lord, thus, a Bodhisattva who possesses mindfulness and proper attention, well knows that what is said to exist by the wise in the world exists. He well knows that what is said to not exist by the wise in the world does not exist. He is not attached to applying the term 'it exists.' He is also not attached to applying the term 'it does not exist,' and thus follows the true meaning spoken by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. Secret Lord, the Tathagata has summarized all the Dharma for them, like a Dharma Sutra.

English

It is written. What are the four? To refute those Shramanas and Brahmins who constantly say there is permanence, and those who perceive the gods as long-lived and permanent, it is said that all conditioned things are impermanent; to refute those who perceive gods and humans as happy, it is said that all conditioned things are suffering; to refute those non-Buddhists who say there is a self, it is said that all dharmas are without self; to refute those who indulge in conceptualization and are filled with pride, it is said that Nirvana is peace. Lord of Secrets, the term "impermanence" is a supreme expression for the meaning of extreme impermanence; the term "suffering" is a supreme expression for being free from desires; the term "selflessness" is a supreme expression for the nature of emptiness; the term "Nirvana is peace" is a supreme expression for realizing the signless. Lord of Secrets, therefore, a Bodhisattva who has such faith and understanding in all dharmas and possesses proper mindfulness will not decline from the virtuous qualities that are aspects of enlightenment, nor will they completely regress, and they will quickly perfect all the qualities of a Buddha. Then, the Four Great Kings, guardians of the world, said to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, we four kings are called guardians of the world. Bhagavan, how should we guard the world?" Then, the Bhagavan said to the Four Great Kings, guardians of the world: "Friends, you should guard the world through the actions of Dharma. These ten paths of virtuous action are what guard the world." What are the ten? They are: abandoning killing, being content with one's own possessions, not being unchaste with others' wives, being truthful to those who practice Dharma, not causing discord among others, not speaking harsh words or reviling each other, speaking truthfully without deceiving others, not being greedy for others' possessions, pacifying harmful thoughts, and having completely pure and correct views. Friends, these ten paths of virtuous action

Those are what protect the world. Friends, there are also eight dharmas that protect the world, what are the eight? They are: acting as spoken, respecting the guru, being agreeable in everything, being upright, being gentle, having a mind of love for all sentient beings, not doing all evils, and completely accumulating all roots of virtue. Friends, these eight dharmas are what protect the world. Friends, there are also six dharmas that should be truly satisfied and protect the world, what are the six? They are: the teacher and the wise who practice like Brahma, and the physical actions of love for all sentient beings, this is the dharma that makes one truly satisfied, making one happy, becoming a guru, making one content, worthy of joy, worthy of becoming a guru, worthy of respect, worthy of practice, worthy of accumulation, worthy of becoming samadhi, this is the first. Similarly, the teacher and the wise who practice like Brahma, and the verbal and mental actions of love for all sentient beings, this is the dharma that makes one truly satisfied, making one happy, becoming a guru, making one content, worthy of joy, worthy of becoming a guru, worthy of respect, worthy of practice, worthy of accumulation, worthy of becoming samadhi, this is the second and third. Whatever gains are in accordance with the Dharma, even if they fall into the alms bowl, or belong to the alms bowl, one should think of sharing such gains with the wise who practice like Brahma, this is the dharma that makes one truly satisfied, making one happy, becoming a guru, making one content, worthy of joy, worthy of becoming a guru, worthy of respect, worthy of practice, worthy of accumulation, worthy of becoming samadhi, this is the fourth. The precepts are not deficient, without fault, not misleading, not mixed, having autonomy, not defiled, praised by the wise, not slandered by the wise who practice like Brahma, whatever such precepts are, one should be with the wise who practice like Brahma
