Bhagavan, how should a Bodhisattva meditate on giving with or without signs in form? Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva is inclined to give to form, then he should focus on the giving to be enjoyed or the giving that is enjoyed. A Bodhisattva should know that he is meditating on giving with signs to form. Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva is inclined to give to form, it is like this: form is unattainable in its essence, likewise, things are unattainable, and by nature unattainable, therefore, the giving to be enjoyed is unattainable and the giving that is enjoyed is unattainable. A Bodhisattva should know that he is meditating on giving without signs to form. Bhagavan, a Bodhisattva who strives in the perfection of giving, if he meditates on giving with signs to feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, he will not quickly perfect the perfection of giving. If he meditates on giving without signs, he will quickly perfect the perfection of giving. Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva meditate on giving with or without signs to consciousness? Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva is inclined to give to consciousness, then he should focus on the giving to be enjoyed or the giving that is enjoyed. A Bodhisattva should know that he is meditating on giving with signs to consciousness. Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva is inclined to give to consciousness, it is like this: consciousness is unattainable in its essence, likewise, things are unattainable, and by nature unattainable, therefore, the giving to be enjoyed is unattainable and the giving that is enjoyed is unattainable. A Bodhisattva should know that he is meditating on giving without signs to consciousness. The same should be applied to discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. Bhagavan, a Bodhisattva should fully understand the Samadhi of emptiness in form. Bhagavan, what is the Samadhi of emptiness in form? Bhagavan, whatever is without things in form is emptiness, likewise, the emptiness of things, the emptiness of nature.
