The Noble Five Hundred Verses on the Perfection of Wisdom. The Noble Five Hundred Verses on the Perfection of Wisdom. In Sanskrit: Aryapancasatikaprajnaparamita. In Tibetan: The Noble Five Hundred Verses on the Perfection of Wisdom. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Rajagriha, on Vulture Peak Mountain, together with a great community of monks and a great assembly of Bodhisattvas. Then the Blessed One addressed the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, form is without substance, is evil substance, is existent substance. Subhuti, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are without substance, are evil substance, are existent substance. Subhuti, the eye and forms, and eye consciousness, the ear and sounds, and ear consciousness, the nose and smells, and nose consciousness, the tongue and tastes, and tongue consciousness, the body and tactile objects, and body consciousness, the mind and dharmas, and mind consciousness are without substance, are evil substance, are existent substance. Thus, form, in the three realms, is not truly known by the various ordinary beings, so they become attached to form, become truly attached, and become obstructed. Because they are attached to form, truly attached, and obstructed, they will certainly not be liberated even by the Hearer Vehicle or the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, let alone the Great Vehicle. Thus, because of attachment, true attachment, and obstruction, it is like sentient beings in hell, animals, hungry ghosts, gods, humans, etc., who experience old age and death for a long time. Subhuti, likewise, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are without substance, are evil substance, are existent substance. Subhuti, the eye and forms, and eye consciousness, the ear and sounds, and ear consciousness, the nose and smells, and nose consciousness, the tongue and tastes

and the consciousness of the tongue, the body and the tangible objects, the consciousness of the body, the mind and the dharmas, the consciousness of the mind, non-things, bad things, and existing things, thus the consciousness of the mind in three ways, by the childish ordinary people who do not fully know as it is, therefore they are attached to the consciousness, realize it, and obscure it. Those who are attached to and realize and obscure that consciousness, then even by the Hearer Vehicle or the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, they will not definitely arise, what need is there to mention the Great Vehicle? Thus, being attached to and realizing and obscuring, for example, sentient beings in hells, and animals, and hungry ghosts, and among gods and humans, they experience aging and death for a long time. The wise, however, know the form in those three ways as it is, therefore they do not cling to it, do not realize it, but clarify it. Not clinging to it, not realizing it, but clarifying it, then even by the Great Vehicle they will definitely arise, what need is there to mention the Hearer Vehicle or the Solitary Buddha Vehicle? Thus, not clinging to it, not realizing it, but clarifying it, for example, sentient beings in hells, and animals, and hungry ghosts, and among gods and humans, do not experience aging and death.

Because of doing so, even the Great Vehicle will certainly arise, what need is there to mention the Hearer Vehicle or the Solitary Buddha Vehicle? Therefore, not clinging to appearances, nor clinging to realization, but making it clear, like this: Among sentient beings in hells, animals, hungry ghosts, gods, and humans, there is no one who does not experience aging and death. Subhuti, form is birth, is destruction. That which is the birth of form is the non-birth of form. That which is the non-birth of form is the nature of the non-birth of form. The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, having fully understood the nature of the non-birth of form as it truly is, thereby truly realizes the non-birth of form. Subhuti, likewise, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are birth, are death. That which is the birth of consciousness is the non-birth of consciousness. That which is the non-birth of consciousness is the nature of the non-birth of consciousness. The Bodhisattva, having fully understood the nature of the non-birth of consciousness as it truly is, thereby truly realizes the non-birth of consciousness. Subhuti, if someone says that form is self or belongs to self, then he abides in the category of external childish beings, I say that is a wrong view. Subhuti, if someone says that feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are self or belong to self, then he abides in the category of external childish beings, I say that is a wrong view. Subhuti, if someone says that form arises from a cause previously made, or arises from a cause emanated by Ishvara, or is without cause and without condition, then he abides in the category of external childish beings, I say that is a wrong view. Subhuti, if someone says that feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness arise from a cause previously made, or arise from a cause emanated by Ishvara
