Or does the daughter of a noble family accomplish such merit? Subhuti, with what kind of wisdom does that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abide, seeing all sentient beings as if they were to be killed? At that time, he is completely seized by great compassion, and when he looks with his divine eye, he sees immeasurable, countless, unmeasurable, and innumerable sentient beings who are associated with the deeds of immediate retribution. He also sees those who are without leisure, those who are degenerated, those who are covered by the net of views, those who have not found the path, and other beings who are without leisure. And having seen those who have obtained leisure but waste it, at that time, he feels great sorrow, and having pervaded all those sentient beings with that great love and that great compassion, he thinks: 'I shall become the protector of all these sentient beings, and I shall liberate all these sentient beings from suffering.' And he will be endowed with such wisdom that does not dwell together with characteristics or others. Subhuti, this is also the great light of wisdom for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva to awaken to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in this way is regarded as the object of offerings for all the worlds, and he will not turn back from the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Whatever donors and lords of generosity, with robes, alms, bedding, medicine for sickness, and implements, make use of this Perfection of Wisdom with great attention, then the giving and offerings of the donors and lords of generosity, because of their purity, will all draw near to omniscience. Subhuti, therefore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who desires to enjoy the fruits of alms in a village, who desires to show the path to all sentient beings, who desires to make a vast appearance, who desires to liberate sentient beings who dwell in samsara from samsara, and who desires to purify the eyes of all sentient beings, with wisdom

One should abide in the mindfulness that possesses the perfection of wisdom. If one wishes to abide in this mindfulness, then one should know the mindfulness that possesses the perfection of wisdom. Why is that? Because whatever one thinks should be known, that itself becomes one's mindfulness. Apart from that, one should not distinguish the mindfulness that is separate from the perfection of wisdom. One should act in such a way that day and night are exhausted by the mindfulness that possesses the perfection of wisdom. Subhuti, for example, just as a person who abides in the knowledge of jewels, because he knows the types of jewels, obtains a great jewel that he had not previously obtained. Because he obtained that great jewel, he experiences great joy and exceeding joy. If that great jewel is lost, then he will experience more suffering and displeasure than before. He will think like this: Alas, I have lost that great jewel! He will constantly and continuously generate the mindfulness of having lost the great jewel, until he obtains that jewel again, or obtains another jewel that has the same qualities and similar type as that great jewel, that person will not forget that great jewel. Subhuti, similarly, even if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva completely loses the great jewel of the perfection of wisdom, he should still regard the complete loss of the great jewel as the great jewel itself. Because he possesses the mindfulness of the perfection of wisdom, and is not separated from the mindfulness of the perfection of wisdom, he should search with the mind of all-knowing wisdom to the best of his ability, until he obtains that jewel or another jewel. Until then, he should not become separated from the mindfulness of possessing the great jewel of the perfection of wisdom, and the mindfulness of possessing the great jewel of all-knowing wisdom itself. Subhuti asked, "Bhagavan, what

Furthermore, the Blessed One has said that all dharmas and all mental activities are devoid of intrinsic nature and are empty. Blessed One, how then does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva not depart from mental activity that is endowed with the Perfection of Wisdom and mental activity that is endowed with omniscience? After so asking, the Blessed One spoke thus to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thinks thus: 'All dharmas are empty of inherent existence, all dharmas are empty of intrinsic nature,' then such mental activity is not separate from mental activity endowed with the Perfection of Wisdom and mental activity endowed with omniscience. Why is that? Subhuti, the Perfection of Wisdom is emptiness; it neither increases nor decreases. Subhuti asked: Blessed One, if the Perfection of Wisdom is emptiness and it neither increases nor decreases, Blessed One, how then will a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva accomplish enlightenment with the Perfection of Wisdom that has no increase? How will he realize unexcelled, perfect and complete enlightenment? After so asking, the Blessed One spoke thus to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, the conduct of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva in the Perfection of Wisdom has neither increase nor decrease. Subhuti, how is it that the Perfection of Wisdom is empty, and therefore it has neither increase nor decrease? Subhuti, likewise, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is also empty, and therefore he has neither increase nor decrease. Subhuti, because how the Perfection of Wisdom is empty, and therefore it has neither increase nor decrease, Subhuti, likewise, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is empty, and therefore he has neither increase nor decrease, therefore the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva strives diligently for enlightenment, and thus realizes unexcelled, perfect and complete enlightenment.
