Do not be afraid, do not always be filled with fear. Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, seeing, hearing, understanding, and knowing these and other terrible fears, will not always be afraid of people and me, nor will he always be filled with fear. Shariputra, know that either the son of a lineage or the daughter of a lineage has the capacity to awaken to unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment. Shariputra, thus should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva don great armor: How shall I act so that in that Buddha-field of the Buddhas who have awakened to unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, all the diseases of all sentient beings will in every way completely and utterly cease to occur and not be known? Thus should one act, thus should one undertake steadfast exertion. Thus should one act so that the words spoken by the Tathagata will be spoken, and the actions spoken by the Tathagata will be performed, and thus, for the sake of all sentient beings, one should become completely familiar with the Perfection of Wisdom, so that at that time the Perfection of Wisdom will also be perfected in me. Then, in that assembly, a woman named the goddess Ganga, having gathered and sat down, arose from her seat, draped her upper garment over one shoulder, placed her right knee on the ground, sat down, folded her hands in salutation to the Blessed One, and said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I will not always be afraid of people and me, nor will I always be filled with fear, but I will teach the Dharma to all sentient beings so that they will not be afraid of people and me. Then, at that time, the Blessed One made a smile like the color of gold, and that light pervaded the boundless and limitless realms of the world, manifested up to the world of Brahma, and then returned, circumambulated the Blessed One three times, and then disappeared into the crown of the Blessed One's head. As soon as the Blessed One had smiled, then that woman took golden flowers. With the golden flowers she scattered them upon the Blessed One, manifestly scattered them, and very manifestly scattered them.

Then, those golden flowers remained in the sky without falling. Then, the venerable Ānanda rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, placed it on the ground, and with his palms joined together, prostrated towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, does not smile without a cause or condition. What is the cause and what is the condition for smiling?" After he said this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, this Ganges goddess, in the future, will become a Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One named Golden Lotus, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed, tamer of beings, incomparable teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Blessed One, will appear in the world, and in a kalpa like a star, will manifestly and perfectly awaken to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Ānanda, this Ganges goddess will transform her female body and obtain a male body. After passing away from here, she will be born in the Buddha-field of the Akṣobhya Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, in the world system called Abhirati. After being born there, she will practice pure conduct in the presence of the Akṣobhya Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One. Then, after passing away, without being separated from the sight of the Tathāgatas, she will go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field. Then, from wherever she goes, without being separated from the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, she will go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field, going to that place and that place. Ānanda, it is like a wheel-turning monarch going from palace to palace, and as long as he lives, the soles of his feet do not touch the ground, and even at the time of death, the soles of his feet touch the ground only at the time of death. Ānanda,

The goddess of the Ganges River will also go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field, and until she attains the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, she will never be separated from the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. Then, the venerable Ananda thought to himself: "Those Bodhisattvas, great beings, who are seated in the presence of the immovable Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, should be known as the retinue of the Tathagata." Then, the Bhagavan, knowing the thoughts of the venerable Ananda's mind, said to the venerable Ananda: "Ananda, it is so, it is so. Those Bodhisattvas, great beings, are those who have crossed over the mud, and they practice pure conduct in the Buddha-field of the immovable Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha. Ananda, those Bodhisattvas, great beings, should be known to be close to the complete attainment of enlightenment. Ananda, also, the assembly of the hearers of the Golden Flower Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, will not be limited in number. Why is that? Ananda, because so many immeasurable hearers will appear there, but they will enter into numbers such as immeasurable and uncountable. Ananda, also at that time, in that Buddha-field, there will be no wilderness of wild animals, no wilderness of thieves, no wilderness of water, no wilderness of famine, no wilderness of disease. Ananda, those inauspicious wildernesses and other inauspicious things will not appear at all, in any way, in that Buddha-field, and will not be known. Ananda, also when the Golden Flower Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, attains the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, such terrible wildernesses, at that time, in every way, in every aspect, everything
