If one thinks of grasping the color and shape of the large, Subhuti, what do you think? Is that person born with the nature of wisdom? Subhuti replied: World Honored One, no. The World Honored One said: Subhuti, similarly, if a person with the Bodhisattva vehicle does not understand or inquire about this Prajnaparamita, but abandons it, wanting to realize the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment, but wants to seek those sutras taught by the Shravakas and those taught by the Pratyekabuddha ground, it should be known that they are like that, Subhuti, this should also be understood as their demonic activity. Subhuti, for example, a person seeking treasure, sees the great ocean, but does not contemplate, consider, or enter that treasure, but instead wants to seek in the source of that treasure—the hoofprint of a cow, and thinks that the hoofprint of a cow and the great ocean are the same, Subhuti, what do you think? Should it be considered that this person has the nature of wisdom? Subhuti replied: World Honored One, no. The World Honored One said: Subhuti, similarly, if a person with the Bodhisattva vehicle, even if he obtains this Prajnaparamita, abandons it because he does not understand or know it, for those sutras taught by the Shravakas and those taught by the Pratyekabuddhas, wanting to abide in small diligence, therefore seeks, it should be known that those Bodhisattvas are like that. Wherever the Bodhisattva vehicle is not proclaimed, it is only said that one's own tamed and peaceful abides, and it is said that one should be completely liberated from suffering in this way, and that one's heart truly abides, and that one obtains the fruit of entering the stream, the fruit of once returning, the fruit of not returning, and the fruit of Arhat, and obtains the Pratyekabuddha Bodhi. In this life, without taking, the mind is completely liberated from afflictions, and thus completely liberated from suffering, this is called corresponding to the Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha ground, here

A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should not generate such a thought. Why is that? Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has truly entered the Great Vehicle and donned great armor; they never generate a thought for small pleasures. Why is that? Those noble beings are guides of the world, working for the benefit of the world. Therefore, they should constantly and without interruption diligently study the six perfections. Furthermore, Subhuti, those individuals who are of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, whose roots of virtue are not fully matured, who are of inferior wisdom, and who are filled with excessive pride, do not understand or comprehend the sutras that possess the six perfections. Having abandoned this Perfection of Wisdom, they think to seek out those sutras that are revealed by the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Subhuti, such individuals who are of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, one should recognize this as the work of Mara. Subhuti, for example, a carpenter or a carpenter's apprentice, wishing to measure and construct a house to the size of a palace of victory, seeks the measure and circumference of the mansions of the sun and moon. Having sought them, he sees the mansions of the sun and moon and thinks to measure their size. Subhuti, what do you think? Wishing to make and construct a house to the size of a palace of victory, should one measure the size of the mansions of the sun and moon? Subhuti replied, "No, Bhagavan." The Bhagavan said, "Subhuti, likewise, in the future there will be individuals who are of the Bodhisattva Vehicle who, having heard this Perfection of Wisdom and having obtained this Perfection of Wisdom, abandon the Perfection of Wisdom, and having forsaken the Perfection of Wisdom, think to seek omniscience from the sutras that possess the grounds of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. What sutras? 'I shall tame myself alone, I shall pacify myself alone, I shall attain complete Nirvana alone.'

also manifests in this way, saying, 'I alone am tamed, pacified, and attain complete nirvana.' If one seeks all the sutras in such a way and thinks to learn in such a way, what do you think, Subhuti? Should those bodhisattvas also be regarded as having the nature of wisdom? Subhuti replied, "No, Blessed One." The Blessed One said, "Subhuti, this should also be regarded as the work of their demons. Subhuti, it is like this, for example, if a certain person wants to see a wheel-turning king, and he sees a wheel-turning king. Having seen him, he takes the color, shape, splendor, and magical power of the wheel-turning king as signs, saying, 'It is like this.' If he sees a king of a city, he takes the color, shape, splendor, and magical power of that king of the city as signs. Because he cannot distinguish the difference, he says, 'The wheel-turning king is just like this in color, shape, splendor, majesty, magical power, and appearance.' Subhuti, what do you think? Should that person who thinks to compare the wheel-turning king with the king of the city be regarded as having the nature of wisdom? Subhuti replied, "No, Blessed One."
