Merely because it arises from universal conceptualization. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, how can I also attain distinction from virtuous dharmas, and also cause other beings to practice attaining distinguished virtuous dharmas, and perfect all grounds with virtuous dharmas, and also cause beings to practice and establish themselves in the three vehicles? After such a request, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva meditates on things or the characteristics of things, and does not meditate on the absence of things and the absence of characteristics, then that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva himself will not be able to attain distinction, nor will he be able to cause other beings to practice distinction and establish themselves. Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, and perfects the Perfection of Dhyana solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, similarly, he perfects the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, and the Perfection of Morality. If he perfects the Perfection of Giving solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, similarly, if he perfects the Dhyanas solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, if he perfects the Immeasurables and the Formless Absorptions solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, similarly, if he meditates and perfects the Four Mindfulnesses, the Right Exertions, and up to the Eightfold Noble Path solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, similarly, he perfects the Samadhi of Emptiness, Absence of Characteristics, and Absence of Wishes solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, similarly, he perfects Inner Emptiness solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, he perfects Outer Emptiness solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, thus combining, solely in the manner of the absence of characteristics, up to the Emptiness of Self-Nature.

also makes it complete. Similarly, it completes the eight liberations in the manner of being solely without characteristics. It completes the nine successive states of meditative absorption in the manner of being solely without characteristics. Similarly, it completes the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha in the manner of being solely without characteristics. In that way, one does not cling to those in the manner of being solely without characteristics, nor does one become inverted. Having meditated on these virtuous dharmas, others should also be like this, incorporating and well establishing those virtuous dharmas themselves. Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, while practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, has even a tiny bit of the characteristic of dharma, Subhuti, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, while practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, having awakened to all dharmas as without characteristics, without thought, and without intention, will not establish these undefiled dharmas in Suchness. Subhuti, all those undefiled dharmas are without characteristics, without thought, and without intention. Subhuti, in that way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, while practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, constantly benefits sentient beings with undefiled dharmas. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, if all dharmas are without characteristics, without thought, and without intention, then why are these defiled dharmas? These are undefiled? These are worldly? These are beyond worldly? These are conditioned? These are unconditioned? These are common? These are uncommon? These are the dharmas of Hearers? These are the dharmas of Solitary Buddhas? These are the dharmas of Bodhisattvas? These are right

The Tathagata, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, has made various distinctions in the establishment of dharmas. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Is the signless something else, and the dharmas of the Shravakas something else? He replied: Venerable Blessed One, no. Subhuti, what do you think? Is the signless something else, and the dharmas of the Pratyekabuddhas something else, the dharmas of the Bodhisattvas something else, and the dharmas of the perfectly enlightened Buddhas something else? He replied: Venerable Blessed One, no. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, thus, is the fruit of Stream-enterer and the fruit of Once-returner, the fruit of Non-returner and Arhatship, and the Pratyekabodhi signless? Is unsurpassed perfect enlightenment signless? He replied: Venerable Blessed One, it is so, the Sugata is so. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, by those names, you should thus understand that all dharmas are signless. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who trains in this signless dharma will increase in all roots of virtue, namely, the six Paramitas and the four Dhyanas, the four Immeasurables and the four Formless Absorptions, the four Mindfulnesses and the four Right Exertions, the four Legs of Miraculous Power and the five Faculties, the five Powers and the seven Limbs of Enlightenment, the eightfold Noble Path, and thus combined, constantly increasing up to all the Buddhadharmas. Why is that? Thus, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should not train in anything other than emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Why is that? Subhuti, because all virtuous dharmas are gathered in these three doors of liberation. Why is that? Thus, the door of liberation, emptiness, is that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, the door of liberation, sign
