. He became proficient in understanding all crafts, and well-trained in the eighteen branches of knowledge. He became secluded, joyful, and agreeable to many people. Because he was well-trained in everything, whatever he undertook would be endowed with great gain. At that time, many people would also regard him as a teacher, paint him, make offerings to him, and be satisfied, giving rise to joy, supreme joy, and mental happiness. For some purpose, he led his parents, siblings, wife, sons, daughters, and all his children to a wild monastery called "Hair Disheveled," which would frighten the children. After arriving there, he said to his parents, siblings, wife, sons, daughters, and all his children, "Do not be afraid! I will lead you to escape safely and peacefully from this great fear and terror, and quickly attain liberation." He admonished them in this way. In that wild monastery, many of their enemies, murderers, and attackers also appeared. Because he possessed excellent wisdom and strength, he safely led his parents, siblings, wife, sons, daughters, and all his children out of that wild monastery, and then re-entered villages, cities, and towns, giving rise to joy and mental happiness, allowing them to dwell without fear, and not arousing any thoughts of retaliation or disturbance towards those beings. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because that man is very skilled in gambling and all other needs. Similarly, Subhuti, whenever a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides, pervading with a mind of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, cultivating and dwelling, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, at that time, abides in the four immeasurables, thereby perfecting the six perfections. Having perfected the six perfections, only until he has not attained the exhaustion of defilements does he become fully familiar with all-aspects of knowledge.

La, even dwelling in emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, they are not dominated by them. They will not be robbed by them. Those doors of liberation, by manifesting which one would fall into the ground of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha, those also they do not manifest. Subhuti, for example, a bird flies in the sky, but does not fall to the ground. It flies in the sky, but does not dwell there, nor is it stained. Subhuti, likewise, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also familiarizes himself with the doors of liberation, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and also dwells in them. Until the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, until all these are not completely attained, if he manifests those doors of liberation, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, by which one would fall into the ground of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha, he does not manifest them. Subhuti, for example, a strong man, well-trained in archery, shoots an arrow high into the sky. Having shot it high into the sky, others shoot arrows after the first arrow, continuously. As long as he wishes, he does not allow the arrow to fall to the ground, thinking, 'Alas, what does it matter if this arrow falls to the ground?' If he does not shoot the subsequent arrow high into the sky, then the arrow shot one after another will fall to the ground. Subhuti, likewise, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, being completely grasped by skillful means, as long as those roots of virtue have not completely matured into unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, he does not manifest that ultimate, true limit. When those roots of virtue have completely matured into unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, then he manifests the ultimate, true limit. Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom.

By acting with conduct, one should thus ascertain the nature of these dharmas. The Hundred Thousand Prajnaparamita, Chapter Twenty-five. After thus speaking, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: O Blessed One, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who study this dharma-nature, study the ultimate reality, study suchness, study the realm of dharma, study emptiness beyond extremes, study between self-nature emptiness, and study between the three doors of liberation, although they study, they will not fall into the intermediate state. The difficulties of those Bodhisattva Mahasattvas are, O Blessed One, wonderful! It is extremely wonderful! The Blessed One said: Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas are those who do not abandon all sentient beings, and they are those who have such excellent aspirations. Subhuti, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva thus realizes this great mind, "I am one who does not abandon all sentient beings, and I alone shall liberate all those sentient beings who abide in non-existent dharmas." Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva realizes the door of liberation, emptiness, for those sentient beings, and thus realizes the doors of liberation, signlessness and wishlessness. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who does not realize the ultimate reality of the intermediate state until he has realized the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, should be known as skillful in means with regard to the doors of liberation, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Subhuti, what are the profound places for the Bodhisattva Mahasattva? They are from inner emptiness to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, and likewise, between the four mindfulnesses and the eightfold noble path, constantly individually.
